Your '88 Audi NF or maybe NG engine is CIS fuel injected, a "mechanical" fuel injection system.
Where have you looked? Autohaus AZ shows '88 NF injectors available...?

Are you sure you're injectors are the issue? The CIS system is a robust, reliable system, but getting it to perform fully up to potential requires all the parts of the system to be up to snuff. The injectors are rarely the problem, as far as I know.
That is unless you've got crud in your gas tank...

Otherwise, that engine could be converted to EFI...
You can get these:
http://store.034motorsport.com/injector-bung-cis-to-efi-billet-aluminum-24mm-20884.html

And install EFI injectors to your existing intake. Or get a different intake manifold that accepts EFI injectors (Eurovan 5 cylinders were EFI for instance).
Then you need injectors, and a computer to run the engine. You could use an existing EFI brain from something like the eurovan, or SA 5 cylinder motronic engines, but the tune would be fixed, and probably not particularly good for your engine. Standalone EFI is the next option - fully tune-able via laptop etc. These systems are not cheap though.

034 motorsports may be some help, maybe even a standalone system like megasquirt.

I have a 1986 tin top Syncro with an Audi 5000 2.3L 5 cyl fuel injected engine conversion. The engine is a 1988 vintage.

It has been a good runner when the fuel injectors are working.

Does anyone have information on how to convert the above engine to a better more reliable fuel injection system.
I appears that the injectors installed now have been discontinued.

Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
Fred

There's a bell housing in the classifieds right now.

If it's for a T3 Syncro, you need a South African bell housing.

You can buy them new from Winkler in Germany for around €500.

They also have engine mounting bars etc.

If it's for a T3 2WD, I would seriously consider a Porsche 996 gearbox.

Check out my Bluestar and Limey threads for fitting details.

I've just found a recently uploaded video of a Syncro with what looks like a 3B engine from Poland on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQIMRoYmqls&feature=player_profilepage

There are some more on there from someone else with the syncro doing some light offroading.

http://youtu.be/uA-04gA19mI

I haven't seen any more detail on the van but will continue to look on the net. From the first video, it's very close with the engine lid and doesn't look like it'll fit underneath but as stated above, the 3B runs a higher profile than the AAN.

The height clearance never bothered me much. Its the cutting into the firewall, as seen in the last picture, that keeps me on the fence. Thank you for posting all the pictures. I've been looking for reference, but haven't had much luck finding any.

It is possible to get it under the lid. Most of the turbo'd 20V engine installs I have seen are only about 1inch away from being under the lid so just dropping the engine that much would do it.

if you are that close.. just bring it up a 'notch' Wink

here's how close we brought up the engine to lid clearance in a 2.5l Eurovan engine install into a 86 automatic westy.

actually we'd dropped the front AT trans mount downward by about 1.5"

we'' cap it with a thin SS plate sealed and across the top level of the ribs.
this config has a few thousand miles on it, no movement or contact issues.

Hey Skyboy:

Good to see the hamster is still spinning the wheel!

I don't think the heat would be a problem since the turbo (esp turbine section) is located mid-way on the AAN engine as measured front to back. You would definitely have to heat shield the waste gate to keep from melting the engine lid. I thought if I did this swap, I would cut out all but the edges of the engine lid and replace with sheet metal for heat reasons and to allow one to bump up the lid, say 1/2" or 3/4" which would not necessite a raised bed in the Westy.

The factory downpipe is actually quite a nice piece of kit - - shaped just right with generous radii and even has decent heat shielding (which should, in any event, be added to). The factory cats are robust and if you need to use them, they will not disappoint. The factory exhaust will easily support a "Stage 1" chip (boost and fueling only at about 290 bhp) although the torque after a Stage 1 really is too much for the syncro trans in my humble opinion.

I have looked under the hood of my S4 many, many times thinking about this swap and I think that if you leave off the plastic cover on the fuel injector rail, cut down the oil filler cap, shorten (or move) the dipstick, and tweak the approach of the throttle cable, you would likely have no clearance issues.
