I've since added some paint to the eye-level LEDs to cut down on the cornea-searing lights....

Ah, the fire - no wonder. I should have noticed the nice color in the trees vs what LEDs put out. That's a pretty cool effect, actually. Made all the cooler by the fact that its a fire, not a lighting effect.

We bought some post-Christmas sale 12V AA battery pack string lights a couple of years ago at HD or a grocery store (don't remember) for soft interior lighting instead of the nasty OEM kitchen light. The batteries last a long time. We just hang them around the inside edge with a couple of magnet hooks here and there. Enough light for us for most things.

Tim,

Wow that lights it up pretty well, though I see you are/were using a photography setup so it may look enhanced through time exposure. I love the colors in the tree, etc. Get the trailer out of there and you have a really artistic Vanagon picture.

It looks like it throws light almost as well as my pricey setup!

a minute exposure but what you don't see is behind the TinCan. We were burning some pallets and they are lighting up the trees
in late Fall. For those concerned, these were hardwood pallets of the Non-Treated kind, so kind of a structure fire.

IKEA stores here in Northen California have their outdoor solar party light sets available again.

They have a string of little paper lantern style ones (all white or multi-color) that come with a tiny solar panel and that use weather-resistant polyester fabric instead of paper for about $20.

Great for when you have shore power, even better is the little gizmo I picked up
for these string lights. A remote control that I can plug into the source of power for
the lights that will turn them off. No more fiddling with the plugs, just push the botton!

Last week in the RAIN I had the chance to try out some of the new christmas LEDs an the
remote control. The LEDs that I used are cool white and this weekend I am going to try out the
multifunction Blue/White string. The remote control worked as advertised, though I had to move
it off the power outlet at the utility post. I relocated it up under the awning and it was a clear
line of sight for the remote to turn it on/off.

A little more R&D on the solar string that I picked up. Haven't had them turned on or charging, which is one in the same for a week and a half.
Seems the battery keeps a pretty good charge, they stil lit up.

One another note! I completed my various electic methods today. I bought a string of 100 LED's (cool white) 110v at Lowes'. Plenty of light coming out of these to see by. Only Rub on these is the lead from the plug, is about three inches from the first light. I see another extension cord in my future

I have a Adventurwagen and it has the out side party light. It is like a boat party lamp. I picked up a LED bulb for it and this seems to be the ticket if you have one of these lights. If not I hope this helps someone out if the are thinking about that style of lamp VW Logo

Check this site out. I bought three strings of the orange and that is more than enough to go all around the awning and much more. Two strings is really enough, but why not have more for just a couple bucks. They are bright enough to give light to see, but not too bright.

I did lots of research and these were the best I could find.

Sorry I didn't take any without using the flash. The pic was a 13 sec exposure @ F20
with and 18mm focal length. The initial flash was dim, so I used an LED flashlight
to fill in the body of the van. If not you wouldn't be able to see much detail at all.
The lights are not bright enough to light up the underside of the awning. My LED's,
http://www.christmas-light-source.com/12-Volt-LED-Light-Set-Warm-White-Green-Wire_p_1566.html
are a much brighter LED string that will light up the entire floor beneath the awning.
I see that they are now on sale, I may buy another string so they will go on three
sides of my awning.
