I guess I should update it. I ended up daily driving it for 5 months straight, put 7,000 miles on it. Only a few little issues, mostly old parts wearing out. I'm taking a little break from VW's due to personal issues, but i still drive it once a week or so.

Interesting thread here. I am thinking about squirting my bus myself. I thought I would let you know that you are missing some important exhaust brackets. Without them the studs will eventually pull out of the head, ruining them. Ask me how I know. Germansupply.com sells one of the brackets. http://www.germansupply.com/home/customer/product.php?productid=16553&cat=&page=1 This one bolts to the bottom right nut and bolt on the driver's side flange and then to the nearest bolt for the fan shroud. The other one was at the bottom of the alternator bracket and bolted to the heat exchanger. If you drive your notch daily you should consider these or it could mean doom for your heads.

They are ok, mine fit nicely, but the tubing is very thin and number 2 broke.

So I got a lil busy on the notch today, fixed the e-brake and the exhaust leak. I'm proud to report the fugly notch is back on driver status...giggity!

I hillbillied :hillbilly: the wrong lengthed ebrake cable and now it works awesome. While I was doing that the heater delete pipes that I ordered 2.5 weeks ago showed up. I had heard that fitment and QC were issues with these things so I had a junk head and 3lb hammer on standby to make them work. Trial fitted them on the junk head and they both fit like a glove, never needed the hammer. Gave them a light coat of POR20 so they won't rust till I get them coated. Install was drama-free. Now my header hangs a cunt hair lower and to the back, fixed all my issues with apron clearance...exactly how I wanted it. The flanges are nice and thick, and the welds look good.

can you spot the exhaust leak?

Nick,

Who makes the new headers? Just picked up a fresh built EA motor with 1.8 heads and 96mm cylinders, as well as a GA coded 2.0l that is going to take some work.

I didn't use any matting but used the sound deadner to seal it all off, I don't notice any fumes of heat coming from the engine bay.

I hae a nice strong idle at 850 with no electrical load and 750 with the headlights and fogs on. it idles fine down to 600 but that will make cold starts too exciting.

Brian- i used .040 aluminum sheet. Eric Anderson braked a flange into it it and installed a couple of trick fasteners.
