Unfortunately no I haven't worked on any ACVW stuff in a few months. A million other projects have stolen my time, but I'm hoping to get back to things by the fall. I'm two motorcycle builds away from having a clean shop. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

No, hell hasn't frozen over (although it feels like it up here in the northeast with the temperatures we've been having).
As many of you know, the Square has been stored up in Maine for the last 6 months or so. I finally got the opportunity to get up north to get some work done on it. While I wasn't able to find enough time to work on the bodydrop, I did get it closer to being one color and prevented any future rust in a few major areas.
I will likely be able to get the Square down to Mass before too long. Motorcycle projects have quieted down a bit and I've changed up the layout at the shop quite a bit in order to fit more. Hopefully this will lead to better progress on the car. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

I should have my name changed to Dr. Frankenstein, because I just love bringing stuff back from the dead!
I started back on the square a little bit last night. Hoping to having the whole body stripped and in etching primer by the weekend. Pics to come. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

Unfortunately, I don't think I'd be able to make a bracket for your engine without building it in the car. My square is so modified in the engine bay/floor area that I have no clue if an EDC would even fit in a stock space. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

Just so everyone knows, I haven't stopped working on the Square. I've been busy with travel for work, side jobs and home improvement projects.
I recently invested in a TIG welder, which well help on a few custom things I've got in mind.
I've also started putting together some kits for air management for other people putting together a bag setup for their Type III. I'm hoping to be able to fab up some bracket kits eventually, but that won't be until further down the road. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

are you fabbing up a cover extension for the fan housing? |
The stock cover fits on still. I'm not going to do anything by the belt. There's hardly any open space for hot air to get drawn in anyways. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build

That compressor setup is about as good as you can get I think. Has me very very interested in doing something similar. I am also very interested in how it will affect the cooling of the car. |

Welp, due to a little mishap I had last Wednesday night I wasn't able to get as much done on the Square over the weekend as I'd wanted. Apparently a little spark sneaked its way under my safety glasses and stuck itself in my eye without me noticing. Thursday night I ended up going to the ER to have it pulled out, and Friday had to see my Optometrist to have him drill the rust out (yes, it's as much fun as it sounds). Unfortunately this is nothing new to me. According to the Doc's records, this was visit number six since '05.
By Saturday I was feeling well enough to drag the engine out of the basement and give it another run, this time with the EDC and alternator hooked up. I gave things a quick check with 11th Hour's resident engine whispered (Jason) before firing it back up, and much to our surprise, the valves were all way out of spec. I suppose that explains the noise from the first run. We also discovered a pretty significant intake leak on cylinders one and two, which we quickly fixed. Once we had things back in spec we fired her back up, did some rough carb synching and verified that the EDC and alternator were working as I had hoped.
Here's the result;

I'm much happier with how she sounds now. The alternator and EDC work better than I could have possibly hoped for. Clean charging at idle and no real draw on the engine when the clutch is engaged on the compressor. Can't ask for any more than that. _________________ '73 Squareback Bodydrop Build
