Thats great thanks !! I've been searching for all vintage looking options for my car. |
Here are some pictures of how the gauge is installed. After saying that my gauge looked like all the others in the gallery, I notice that the image I posted is different: My gauge registers 15 pounds on the vacuum side and 7 on the boost. At idle, the needle stays around 12-13 and the most I've ever seen it jump is to ~4.5.
Thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I'm surely glad to have the car at a stage where it can be driven and enjoyed, but what I could never have foreseen when I started this project is the number of people who would do so much to help! The community here is truly outstanding and the number of great Ghia's we've seen rebuilt, restored, and enjoyed is a testimony to that. |

Dan,
this entire thread is just a blast and a testimony to your dedication.
I bet the owner of the"original paint" bus in front of you was afraid your low light would make it feel self conscious
i hope you enjoy driving you car as much as i have enjoyed reading the forum posts and looking at the pictures. _________________ regards

Any close up pics of the boost gauge ?? |
When I get home from work I'll post a picture, but my gauge is really no different than a number in the gallery:
It's a neat accessory, but I'm really not sure how accurate it is! |

At long last, my ghia project is finally done(*)!
Over the last several weekends I've test driven it through Monterey and Carmel, and last Wednesday brought it home! We're still working out a few minor kinks, but it has been a real joy to be able to take the car out in the cool weather we've been having lately.
Yesterday morning I drove it to the show at Kelley Park where it was in great company among a larger collection of Karmann Ghia's than I've seen in years! Kelley Park had sort of become a ritual for me over the last 7 years, each time around I'd promise myself that *next* year I'd have the car ready in time! Sort of surreal to actually make it!
I'm indebted to the community here. The tremendous amount of knowledge and support on this forum is what made it possible for me and so many others to reach a good conclusion with their projects. Thank you.
Also, I was so busy at the show that I didn't really get many pictures of the ghia row there. If you have some -- please post them for forum to enjoy!
(*) Yeah right. These things are never "done". But close enough. ;-) |

How did you get the mats/tunnel/ebrake boot green? Is this available or custom? |
A few folks have asked me about this. The rubber has been painted with a paint formulated for flexible, vinyl surfaces manufactured by SEM. This was originally suggested by Dave Ruby (Retrowagen).
The paint is pretty easy to obtain (at least for folks in the United States). Here is a link to the product I found on the internet.

Once again, thanks for the encouragement! |
