I doubt you will feel any power difference between cannons and collector exhaust. Mostly the racket and roar from those cannons vs even a leaky cracked collector system will be all you notice. The cannons sound great for about an hour, then not so much... Unless a pair of open pipe Harleys are you thing...
I finally had a one off custom system made for my buggy with thick flanges and construction and powder coating and all after about a dozen short term budget driven systems. It cost a bunch but much less than the 12 "temporary" systems before it.

I understand that I will be losing horsepower by installing the dual exhaust. Unfortunately it's already purchased and I am ready to put the engine back together tonight. My plan is to run the duals for this year and if the HP loss drives me crazy then I will purchase a different style for next year. |

I agree. I think when it's time that is what I will get as well. Right now I have the Bugpack that has the headers arranged similarly but the muffler sits at a vertical angle higher up and exits to the passenger side. I like it but it shakes so bad that it's literally vibrating itself apart. First the muffler bracket broke away from the muffler. Then when I replaced that the tab off the muffler snapped off at the weld. Just to much leverage on that muffler although it does sit nice and close to the engine. When I make my cage I will leave room for one of these Tri-mils. _________________ Brian H.

IF I can make a suggestion, re-think your exhaust decision. I agree stingers are loud as hell, but you can go with like a bobtail style or something. I have one on my baja and it has a way better sound than the stinger I had on there (not my car in the pic).

I had decided to pull the engine this weekend to replace seals and gaskets. My buddy swung by last night to drop off his toolbox. Neither of us had anything going on so we got started last night. 3 hours later we had it removed and apart. Not bad for our first time. He was used to working on larger engines so it was easy for him. I would post pictures but it doesn't seem like the image tag is working right now.
We didn't run into anything that looked disastrous when took the valve covers or heads off. Friday we will replace the seals and whatever else came in the kit I purchased.
The pics can be seen on the last page of this thread in this link if you are interested.

I picked them up in the local auto parts store, I think it was NAPA. They are just generic velcro grab handles for a Jeep or UTV. |

It is definitely a better fit now. I am still tempted to buy a new frame and pull everything off this one and put on the new one. The head room in the one is fine but it is still a bit narrow. |

You were quite wedged in it before! Looks like you actually fit now! |

Ha! I forgot that moved too, and I put a larger wheel on. It is 100% more comfortable to drive now. |

That was another option we thought about, but mine already had the custom canvass top installed, and moving those bars would require me to get that remade. Luckily there are very few rails in the northeast so nobody really notices how much different the cage looks now. |

I am thinking about just moving both of my upper bars in so it will kinda look like the old "t" top cars. That will give me enough room. |

We were going to raise the cage 6 inches but it looked too goofy. After a trial fit 4.5 inches worked out well. If I needed more room I would have lowered the seats an inch or so below the frame. With ~13 inches of ground clearance I would not have been sacrificing much.

I like to cage mods to make it bigger. Im 6'2 amd my noggin sits about 2 inches below my upper bar. I am tying to figure out how to make more room in it. Looks good! |

Thank you, I had to make it unique because I am 6' and the cage was just too small for me.
Time and money are very scarce these days. I am running in 2 rally events in July so I am saving for those. Trying to find time to hook up with my friends that know how to weld is a PITA during the summer. I have a rear bumper I want to install, purchased a dual cannon exhaust that I want to return because I did not research the performance aspects of them before I ordered them. I also need to get a new canvass cover made because the old one no longer fits after raising the windshield.
Still toying with the roof rack idea for mounting a kayak but that is still in it infancy due to my lack of welding skills and time constraints. |

It's not the voltage that determines gage it's the current.
Was just reading through your write-up because you mentioned something about kayaks and I'm researching kayak racks. I like your rig. Very unique. Have you found time to do anything with it recently? _________________ Brian H.

I installed the 10g and it was overkill., it only needs to carry 12V. |

Not totally familiar with the alternator wiring specifically but if the original wire was a 10g.. A 16g wire is probably not appropriate |
