Being that I mostly drive the car with the top down, I figured that adding additional sound-deadening material would just be a waste of time & money. You'd probably have to line the interior of a Ghia with mattresses to really dampen out all the road noise anyway. My car still has all the original tar-board insulation under the carpet along with all the original engine compartment insulation and I'm leaving it at that.

Yes...Newton offers both vinyl or cloth binding on their carpet sets. Just be sure to mention which one you want when you place your order. I would definitely recommend the vinyl. The OEM carpet in my '67, as well as most high-end vintage European cars that I've seen, used vinyl. Cloth binding will eventually fade...especially in a convertible. I've seen black cloth binding fade to a coffee-brown color which looked terrible on charcoal gray carpet. |

I've just stumbled across this thread, and the Newton Commercial carpet set looks really good. The icing on the cake is for once they are in the UK !
I take it you can specify either vinyl or cloth edging for the carpets ?

I think 2-3 weeks was about right for delivery from Newton. I went with a black Stayfast canvas top. They've available from several suppliers...I got mine from HoG (along with the padding and headliner). Finding someone I could trust to install it correctly was a bit of a chore. Finally found a small one-man shop in San Jose run by an old gentleman who understood how to do these 3-layer tops correctly.

I really like the way Newton Commercial carpet looks. Question for Rusty 57 the one photo looks like grey while the back seat looks blue. Are they two different cars? Oh I see in a later thread you answered that question. 2-3 weeks for delivery?
Also I did not see seat covers or panels available from Newton Commercial. Did you get yours from them or some other source? I see – again in a later thread that you went for Sewfine for the seats and panels ... what color did you go for your top?

No...they're black & gray. I'm sorry for the poor color rendering in some the photos I posted in this thread. They were taken outdoors in deep shade and the camera picked up a lot of blue from the sky. I tried to correct them a bit but couldn't make them look right.

Thanks...
I had Sewfine in Amarillo TX make up the seat covers. They're black vinyl (#001) with Black Marble tweed inserts. The piping is off-white (#029).
I also had them send me some extra vinyl for the seat backs, parcel shelf, hinge covers and the rear seat-bottom surround so that everything matched.
The door panels are original and still in decent shape. The "chrome" is peeling off the plastic trim in a few places but I haven't found anyone who makes a good replacement.

| My carpet is coming from Newton Commercial and is for the rear seat support back, rubber floor mats from Lemke and door panels from SMS. Will post pics when they arrive. |

Where did you get the seat and door covers? I like the color combo, so if you can recall the specific color combination, perhaps you can pass on those details. I have a 67 coupe in the body/paint shop and will be dealing with the interior soon. You have a beautiful car.

The Newton Commercial kit fit perfectly. I warmed the back side of each piece with a heat gun and molded it to the contour where it fit before applying any glue. Properly installing the whole kit is a time-consuming process so take your time and your patients will be rewarded.
I also recommend getting the vinyl binding instead of cloth. Vinyl was used on the OEM carpet and won't fade like cloth. Looks better too IMHO.

Wow, that is SO nice. I know where I'm getting my next carpet set. The current carpet in mine was either for the wrong car or they really got their measurements wrong; the shifter cutout is about 2 inches forward of where it is supposet to be and whoever installed it just made a slit for the shifter and left the laminated cutout ahead of it on the tunnel. Oh well, at least I have a "holder" for my stereo remote, lol.
The front sides come about 5 inches short of meeting the door opening, there is a bunched up section at the rear of the tunnel that could have been trimmed during install, and no cutouts for the rear heat vents, so the carpet has to be tucked up out of the way to get that direct flow that warms up underneath your seat and keeps your um, lower parts comfy!

I used both e-mail and phone to contact Newton. I believe that the initial order was placed phone. They were very easy to deal with and the carpet took about 2-3 weeks to arrive.
