Ive got to ask because I could afford to buy this in a couple weeks- what work would be needed to fix the shock tower to make it drivable? Is it as simple as finding a donor syncro or van and cutting and replacing, or is a frame machine necessary?
Thanks, James _________________ WANTED: Annis Morrill Corp. dealer information and stuff

After a lot of soul searching and prioritizing (and a really bad dealing with a samba member trying to buy a clean shell), I've decided to wait on building a new van. The Corter van is available in the classified, I'm not sure what it's worth so please send over any offers if you're interested. Details on the build in this thread, current condition details in the add:

I am glad things have all worked out.
Can you give some insight to the insurance experience?
Who you had for coverage?
Policy type?
Feedback about protection?
Anything that can help others make a good selection.
Thx |

So excited for you Eric
Even with the tentative plans, this next build should be fun and produce another unique, extremely safe and dialed in Syncro. |

Dealing with insurance was short and painless, and I received the van back this weekend. It's totaled, and I bought it back for pennies on the dollar. Here she is
A comparison of the points of impact
The side she flipped and hit the ground. No broken windows or anything
And the main damage looks to be the shock tower area, As long as the front transaxle isn't damaged we're looking at a best-case-scenario rebuild with a new shell
We're rebuilding, and in the next couple weeks I'll have updates with insurance numbers and stuff, along with the new van and plans. Very happy this negative turned into a positive, the Corter van should be rebuilt and better than it ever was very shortly! |

I'm glad that everything went without human fatalities -- as long as it's iron, you can bend it. Human life is not so easy to replace --
and I'm glad everything seems to work out for you
I cross my fingers and hope for updates

Fantastic news! Definitely would like to hear the particulars you are willing to share after the inks dry. Big sigh of relief on your part I imagine! _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

Just a little update, thanks again to all those reaching out!
Damage has been appraised by insurance and they've declared it a total loss.
HOWEVER their independent appraisal of the vehicle's value is actually perfectly on point and very fair. I feel very fortunate that the guy appraising did research/had knowledge of the van and it's value.
Now we wait for them to review all of my receipts for motor/trans/body work, and make their offer. I'll be happy to share more intimate details of the case when it's all said and done, but for now I don't want to put too much out there. |

Thanks for the love everyone. It's amazing how many folks have reached out with offers to help, clean shells, etc- this community continues to be amazing.
I'm actually feeling ok about the whole thing, she'll be back on the road (or some version of her) in the near future for sure.
Bosruten- no liquid anywhere around the van, so I"m going to assume they did their job! Everyone actually commented that they were super impressed the ground was dry, even the jerry can held strong. Other driver's car was peeing liquids all over the place! |

| How very sad to see after all of your work. I'm glad you weren't hurt, but I really feel for you. It's amazing how emotional we can be about our these special vehicles. |

Well. the van appears to have come through relatively unscathed. Hope you're both back up and running soon. Did the rollover valves to their job? _________________ '87 Syncro Weekender |

It's truly a jungle out there on the mean streets! I have had three different vehicles totalled over the years in t-bone and rear end collisions - - once with my kids in the back seat. There were almost three homicides connected with those occasions. Fortunately, I managed, barely, to keep myself in check. Kudos to Corter and all of you who stay calm at accident scenes . . . I know it is hard.
Very glad to hear no major injuries occurred. The Corter Van will rise again!!! _________________ '86 Syncro Westy SVX |

Man I hate to see that but I'm glad every one is ok.
I'm in the middle of a conversion and have a complete syncro body minus the gas door panel and steering rack assembly. If you need any parts I will be glad to help. The less that gets scraped the better.
Sorry that had to happen to you and your van.
