I can't believe it's been 10 years since the vert went into storage. After a stint in Switzerland and a return to Oz, the workshop is bigger than ever! A change of jobs has brought a kinder work-life balance and now, hopefully time to get the vert back together. Stay tuned as I rediscover all the work that is yet to come...

And Welcome to Europe when you get here! Some nice shows you can attend wilst you are here
And if you get bored and want to work on a vert, just plan a holiday to the Netherlands 😉
Good luck!

Good luck mate. I've done something similar too.
Jobs and family come first but don't let it go too long or you'll find yourself in your 60's, arthritic and less than supple to complete what you started.
Best of luck o/s!

A sad day for my VW world yesterday. The 59 vert is in storage as well as my whole workshop...
In two weeks I'm moving the family to the other side of the world to Switzerland. A great job opportunity that could not be turned down. I'll really miss my workshop and the space we have. Living in an apartment again after 15 years in the country will take some adjusting.
So no progress on the vert for at least 3 years I'd say. Collecting parts? Why not. Germany is just over the boarder..... hmm

Sorry, none to speak of. Shed time has been disappointingly low. Really need to get stuck in and get the vert back into one piece. _________________ I hate rust!

inspirational. your clip job needs to be shown to anyone contemplating clipping their car as an example of how one should look when finished. (the same could be said of all your work really) |

Then is with the replacement panel. I really need a little reciprocating saw. Really hard to get in there with the grinder.
Now just to clean up the welds.

These areas should look like this. Note how there is a joggle in the flange to accommodate the side of the heater channel. This is what needs recreating as removing the heater channel buggered up these sections.

So moving onto some other repairs. The lower firewall section in front of the heater channels were rusted through. I'd done one earlier that I still was not happy with. But now that I have good access, time to get it right.

One advantage of breaking the vert down. A lot easier to work on the bench and get to those hard to reach places.
