Making a shift knob.

post away, you never know who is watching for ideas. I tend to forget I have access to machine shops at times, maybe I can hop on the lathe. it would be neat to have one made out of brass.

Made a negative template from cardbord to help.

Well, nothing against these 7 chilly Michigan winters I lived through Laughing

Bought my Ghia there and brought it "home".

Here's another idea for you: Exactly scaled up original shift knob on a Gene Berg Shifter, made from aluminum and powder coated to exact color ==> Extremly precise and lockable:

"Don't knock it till you try it" I guess. It's not too bad, i wish it were alittle bigger though. Don't think its my cup of tea. Nothing to Lose though, just found some random old golf ball to drill and tap.

I tried the kerosine stripes, it worked well. But while trying to coat it, I droped it in the dirt Confused

So Then I sprayed it off with water and tried to burn the rest of the coating off, because it's just a scrap piece of wood. So I sanded and tried my hand at staining and coating it in urethane, didn't really know what to do because the label isn't that legible, I i just kind of dipped it in there. It came out pretty slick, am I supposed to do two Coates?

A very interesting idea. 3D printing is really impressive stuff wish I had one to play with!

I do think I would fancy that style. I suppose I'll check my local hobby shop and see what that have, as opposed to making mine one of a nice wood for now. It will be an easier route.

- a question for any wood guys out there- how does one achieve the "tiger stripe" look in the wood? I've read that they used to soak a length of rope in kerosine wrap it around and then light it. I was wanting to do this in a swirl around it.

I suppose I should change the name of this thread to "show is your shifters"
