My kinda guy- working on finding original paint before the bed full of crap is even cleaned out! Cool

A caveat: Looking at early original dove blue buses, it is super rare to find one with good paint around the window frames. They all seem faded and rusty in contrast to the health of the rest of the paint. Be careful removing your green on those. By biggest regret is not buying a great set of OG dove blue window frames when I had them in my hands at BBB. Some of you know the pair I'm talking about... Crying or Very sad

so after needing a break from working on the 72 bug I decided to try and get rid of the green that I am a fan of but not my wife. Tested an area on the gate then proceeded to the roof. She wanted to see if it had logos as we have found out that it was on old gas station truck. So to appease my wife I took some goof off to the green paint to uncover the dove blue.

I must say I am loving the blue. Don't know what to do with some of the bondo that is in the truck as it is very fragile and falls out with ease. My thinking is knock it all out?
Planning on running the truck as is (while taking the green off) as I don't have the funds for a respray right now and I almost think that would be a sin and want to drive this thing asap.

Nothing on the edge of the treasure chest opening looks aftermarket except for the lid. I need to take more pics and that will probably help decipher.

That would be my guess too, if the aperture looks stock. I damaged my treasure chest door pulling in to the garage that you can see in my pic above. The repair bill was just under £900. Probably a lot cheaper back in the day, but single cabs were just cheap trucks, so I can see someone making a door instead, if they couldn't find a cheap donor.

I think it might be home made, or at least made from a donor section of skin from another truck?

The bracing that you can see here through the treasure chest...

Looks like the horizontal and vertical bracing on the inside skin on my truck (single treasure chest door)...

The bracing on the door itself is a rectangular pressing, like on the inside of the engine lid, but with a sort of triangluar section connecting to mid-rib half way up the door...

That's the first time we've seen the drivers side of your Single Cab.

Has someone cut it and made a DIY dual treasure chest door truck? I can see a rectangle where the second treasure chest door would be, but no vents or handle.

That is a great swap..... a two for one deal!

Cool video of extraction in the snow. Don't get too much of that where I live Wink

Is the truck an early '59 model?

so this short video was made and sent to me by a good vw guy who helped me yank these things out. I am grateful as I did not get very many pictures of the rescue. Check out the video at the link.

Glad to see those buses pulled from their 40 year slumber. Good work!

No matter what, Mother Nature will keep us guessing. Also about 60 miles from Canada (unorganized territory in Maine), yesterday it was 55F.

Snow and 14F this morning.

Man what a day. Drove an hour to get these and ran into snow, icy roads and 11 degree weather. Gotta love Idaho. Anyway between a child that decided she needed to become sick in the back of my truck while we were pulling the SC onto the trailer and the weather it was a great day. Here are a few pics. My wife was occupied with the sickly kid so she couldn't take to many pictures.

Had some great help from some vw enthusiasts and they took quite a few pics which I hope to get my hands on sometime.

Here you can barely see where they have sat for the last 40 years.

Saying goodbye to one of my latest projects. We will miss the vert but they are still easy enough to find if we want another. Plus here in E. Idaho we might get 3 months of vert weather.

Rescue day is tomorrow. taking 2 trailers, winches and gear also taking some vdubbers from here to help me pick them up. Titles came last weekend and that was pretty much a painless process even though i thought it might be a nightmare. Will update when i get them home.

You are going to love the singlecab. My '67 is my first truck and I more than love it. It's my around town vehicle and always stops people to look and ask about it.

More Idaho buses. I love it. Congrats on a successful hunt.

I am envious of the single cab.

Not surprising at all. Two of my buses are from New Jersey, one from Long Beach. They all came from someplace coastal Cool

True. I guess they all did come into the coast somewhere. Would definitely be cool if these old vw's could talk.
