Installed all the chrome trim, fixed the ebrake and put on some new wipers. Now it ready to get in the daily driver rotation. The narrowed beam and BRM's will come later. I have a Motorcycle I want to work on so the bug got bumped down on the laboratory priority list.

I did find a SB12 headlight ring in my stash so I threw it on.

That's a great link MI-Bug lots of info. Go Buckeyes! Just kidding lol.

Sixfootdan thank you for posting all the info and pictures of these tough to get spots. That is cleanest access to the tunnel I have stumbled on yet. Hole saw is a great idea, and with a smaller one for the metal than you used on the tarboard so it goes back so tight like that. So slick. I never would have thought to try a holesaw on that curved tunnel. I have a couple of cans of that Eastwood frame rail paint too, waiting for the warm weather to arrive here. It looks like it worked great.

The wheels you got are going to look great with the java green color. The car is going to pop with those.

I've been driving the Bug around on short errands for a week or so with no issues other than I have no defrost. I have heat to my feet but not up to the windshield. The first step is to remove the torn up paper tubes down in the quarter panels.

Then I decided to pull the hood of to make life easier.

Cut off this upholstery nail on each side before jamming you hand in there otherwise it's like an old time raccoon trap.

No pictures but I finished the engine install and went on a test drive without issues. I need to install the wiper motor and align the front end next. Good progress today. Cool

I installed the quarter window seals yesterday.

I pulled the motor and threw in a fresh clutch setup. I would also like to point out that you need to remove the flywheel lock before attempting to install the engine. Embarassed

While I had the motor out I fixed a few other things. Most of the exhaust nuts were loose or missing. Lots of loose tin screws. Just snugged everything up a bit. I fixed the engine seal that was in good shape but not installed all the way and cleaned the engine compartment. I'm a little closer to having a good daily driving old Cal Look Bug.

Well I never made it to the quarter window gaskets. I spent time cleaning electrical connections. Ground strap, Starter, and Bulb sockets. I got everything working exterior except for the license plate light. I'm one step closer to driving it.

The bug had no wiper motor when I bought it but the linkage was installed wipers and all. I thought that was weird but whatever. I pulled the linkage and it was frozen solid so I broke it down and got the shafts sitting in oil. I'm in the process of cleaning and painting all of the linkage pieces. I bought a used motor and ordered new bushings, clips, and grommets. While doing all this I saw lumps under a fairly new windshield rubber.

Sorry about the shitty cell phone pic, It's pieces of the old rubber gasket. I'm half tempted to just buy a new gasket and razor the other one out vs. trying to save it and end up braking the windshield which looks to be fairly new also. I'm all too familiar with Murphy's Law seeing as how I have already broken the rear window dropping it and my Girlfriend's last name is Murphy lol.

On a side note, I also may use this funky steering wheel I've been sitting on.

My plan for today is to get all of the lights working as about half of the functions dont. I am also going to install my new quarter window gaskets, Have a great day. Cool

Adjusting my clutch I noticed this brake line, Looks like only one wrench was used.

Tonight I installed the freshly painted pedals with painted and antiseized bolts and hooked up the clutch cable. I ordered all new rear brakes and spring kit. Getting a little closer to driving the daily driver I originally bought. Brick wall

I went to install the clutch cable and noticed the weld broke at the forward ned of the tube. I cut an access hole to fix it I also noticed a small area where my shop vac did not get all the crud in the tunnel so I got it from the new hole.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I welded up the hole and stuck the tar board patch back on.

I had used up all of the green tunnel paint so I shot some black spray paint over the patch.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I cleaned and greased the shift rod and reinstalled it. I also fed the new clutch cable in as well.
