I will be in Vancouver in August and want very badly to see the standard zwitter sunroof! It is up to the new owner to post here if he wants so I won't "out" him.

I was able to confirm that all the Beetles and the Porsche are sold.
I still haven't heard from any other buyers, if you know one please place them in contact with me. The strictest confidentiality will be maintained _________________ https://instagram.com/mr.ogpaint

The bids have been submitted and the seller has been contacting buyers. A good friend of mine is the winning bidder on one of these cars. If any other buyer or agent sees this, please contact me. We are interested in possibly working together on the extraction of the cars from the building and shipping to the west coast. Weighing several options, maybe we can work together _________________ https://instagram.com/mr.ogpaint

the top picture is the car 3 fold Zwitter that is currently for sale.
The bottom 3 pictures are of a '51 standard that I was in negotiations to buy from a guy in Chicago (I think) in the 90's. Somebody bought out from under me but that's another story. It had all kinds of split and later deluxe parts that had added to it over the years. I just posted them to show a standard car that had been similarly modified with deluxe parts. |
ah, ok. so then this particular kansas "barn find" sunroof car in the pics is a zwitter....
I wonder if anybody has a picture of the Vin tab to see if it says 11 E or not.. |

Your probably right Chris. I noticed it doesn't have the aluminum rear window trim either which would be typical. The pictures you just posted show the outside of the sunroof car but the inside is a – the last pictures that were posted show the inside with a Standard oval dash which would make it a zwitter. so is it a 51 or 52? I'm a little confused.
A standard sunroof model would be an "11E" i think.... |

I saw that too. We're there 'Canadian Customs' in 52? I'm thinking no. But it had the standard wheel, headliner, window seals, etc, but deluxe trim. It could have always have been added later, of course.

Most likely added later. I was trying to buy a '51 standard in the early 90's and it had all kinds of split era and later deluxe trim added. It was a very common practice.
This is the '51 standard that I was trying to buy in the early 90's.

| I think a true split 3-fold standard is pretty rare, and its a zwitter to boot; Someone well of course need to check the Vin plate to see if the model designation matches it being a standard and sunroof.... |

I believe you! I told he seemed like a nice guy, but he never gave me the owners contact info or sent me pics like he said he would. ??
That does not answer the question of how does a person submit a sealed bid if it is going that way? |

The process is moving along don't worry about the Dr. Jack he is legit and I would put every vehicle I have on that fact. He's a vet and a man of his word.

For those of you thinking this is a fire sale, the quotes from a very close friend who was onsite is "beat up W decklids, $750 each, the Porsche Speedster (which is a shell of a body and pan only) will bring $300k,...
More power to the seller if he gets those prices since they are way over and above that being asked for the same items on the Samba. The sale of the cars is tied up in probate court and NOTHING is going anywhere soon. |
I doubt the Porsche Speedster will bring anything close to $300k. All the recent high priced (Over $300k) have been original paint or verified one or two owner cars.
And it's not a body and pan (none are), it has a windshield and frame and apparently the soft top bows, and appears to have front and rear suspension. It DOES have flared front wheel wells, ugh. . My guess would be $75-100k.
Yeah, back in the day I passed on nice ones for $1000. I only bought one. That was then, this is now.
Sealed bid is actually a pretty good way to cheaply dispose of items and it is fair if conducted correctly. And well published. You can get way more bidders. they don't all have to be there at Saturday at 8AM in east Timor, Kansas. Just a proper letter inside 2 envelopes and mailed in the prior weeks. Used to be the only way to buy some things. Often publicly owned things. A judge can handle it, I think.
Quit your whining.

There's another discussion about these cars on BarnFinds dot com. One guy is saying that the judge in the matter may turn it into a public auction because of all the difficulties with sealed bids. Location is in Wellington.

I already gave up on them and moved on. There are far better deals out there than these. The people that are saying what they are worth should be the same people opening up their wallet and laying the cash out to buy them.
I can't tell you how many deals I had messed up because someone, a neighbor, a friend, someone opens up their mouth and says this car is worth $50K, because they saw one on Barrett Jackson but the one in front of them has a wrong engine, some rust and missing front seats. Now this car is worth $15K tops. But the guy now thinks his car is worth $35K?? crazy! |
I agree totally. Reminds me of when people dont list a price but say "expensive" in their listing....😑 |
