I am still amazed at what you've done with your super-duper Beetle since you first found it, Bambergvr6! It has an appearance that inspires confidence, like you could drive it any distance with no issues. This is work to be proud of. _________________ "The holy land is everywhere." ~ Black Elk

Thanks Heimlich
break
I used some old rear swaybar brackets on the Racer. I would also like to point out, my front bumper has a braided ground strap, so i can use the bumper as a ground, without that, you will need to run ground wires to your accessories.
I have also fabricated a set of brackets for a client's 78 Vert, to mount some 7" Super Oscars. Those have a bracket mounted to the large pivot bolt on the bumper shock mount and i added a support bracket down to the bottom of the bumper. Here are some pics of both.

Hello all, it has been a while. Allot has happend, but lets talk about the 1974 Bug. Last year late summer i went back to all orange hood and decklid, then installed a 2110cc engine with Super Diff/ Freeway Flyer Transmission. It transformed the 74 into a serious "Orange Racer".
Well this year, in February, i pulled the 2110cc back out, Needed to go thru the engine. Reinstalled it recently, retuned and all Sycnd up. I also reinstalled the Black Hood and Decklid.

I think you may have posted this elsewhere, but now I can't find it. Where did you get the brackets to mount your driving/fog lights? I also have a 74, so I need a way to securely mount them to the mount them to the bumper, since the supports aren't an option, like earlier cars. |

Well it has been about a year since I last reported in on this Thread. I figured it is time to provide an update. Two of the biggest pieces of news are the new Seats and the Steering wheel. Swapped out the 73 Sport Bug Seats for a pair of Scat Procar 90s in Black Vinyl and i now have a 1977 Scirroco Sport Steering wheel. But i have a few other small items that have been changed. I have added a Vintage Speed HTE Rallye Gas Pedal, sourced out some chrome overriders, changed the "D" plate in the rear to a "USA", now running an LED H4 bulb in my headlamps. All of this makes for a Fantastic driving Bug (absolutely live driving this car), now sporting a vintage Super Bug decal on the rear window.
Last year in November, I took her to Dade City, Florida (I live in Texas, but a Florida native), for Bug Jam 2022. Camped there four 3 nights, Competed in the Modified Late Model Bug Class, had a Vendor display setup and participated in the Poker Run. What a great time, great friends and people. Met so many new friends. I took 3rd in the class and won $100 for the worst hand.
I have a new Bug that i have been working on, will likely be sharing that soon, but in a different forum, as it is a 1964.
Enjoy the pictures!

A couple things, it was blowing oil out during hard runs, started running rough, like on 3 cylinders, ran a compreasiin check, all apprix 155 psi, ended up being a fowled/ bad NGK spark plug and one pinched output breather hose coming from the VS breather Tube to air driver's side carb filter.
I added a 2nd crankcase breather on the fuel pump flange and also found that my aftermarket (Chrome) oil dipstick was not correctly marked, it qppears i was also running the car about 1/2 liter too full. I bought a new dipstick and checked it with my original 74 stick, the new one ia perfect, the chrome, well it needs to be re-indexed, to properly show the oil level.
Engine Back in the car, have logged more than 50 miles over past couple of days, (highway speeds and in town driving) and no more oil pushing out.
Very happtly.
* What is up Duane, i see you have a Bay Window Bus now... So envious! Looks choice my friend. _________________ ## ROG ##

What were the symptoms on the engine so that you needed to take it back out? Did you completely disassemble it? What are the spec's on it? Just like the rest of the '74, the engine looks very cleanly put together. |

Wow great build thread! I also have a 74 Bug and running similar suspension and wheels as you, I have a stock width adjustable beam and same sport wheels but the in 914 5.5 ET 40 size. Curious on your front shock selection of running bilstiens with the cut bump stops, how does it ride? I am have the shorter Opel GT KYBs which are pretty good the roads where I live are not great and looking for more comfortable ride. Could the stock shocks be modified in a similar manner? |

The satin black hood and driving lights are awesome. The car is really stepping out now and wearing the rally theme in a strong way.
Like everyone else I am really glad to read that you remained healthy during the smash up. I tell my kids all the time, if you don't want to break your bike then don't ride it - anything can be fixed. This, however, might have been taking it to the extreme. Excellent display of grace and patience in the reconstruction - taking it up a level in the process. _________________ Big Time 1988 Vanagon Westy

Hi, what shims are tou referrimg too? the front beam caster shims? Kamei Spoiler shims?
The front shocks are Bilstein HDs with a modified bump stop. I had Saches oil filled when the car was stock height. _________________ ## ROG ##
