Thanks! The tires are 205/65/15 in the rear, 185/55/15 up front on 5.5" wide wheels. Rear suspension is saggy old original stock height, up front is lowered by 2.5 or 3" or so with Topline struts (I think, it was 30 years ago so the memory is a little foggy)
While the rake looks good, the handling is less than ideal. It feels a little twitchy at highway speeds, I'm guessing because of the caster. On a non-Super they make shims you'd put between the lower torsion tube and frame head to correct for this, buuuut this is a Super so I don't know how you'd fix it. If I ever get new tires for it I'd go with something lower profile in the back to bring it down a bit. _________________ 1973 Superbeetle: 1st car, owned since age 12. Finally shuffled stuff in the garage last week so I could easily get the bug out. I did an oil change and adjusted the rear brakes and took it to Cars & Coffee Saturday morning. It's running a little rough, it didn't want to idle at stop lights so that made for an annoying trip, but we made it there and back.
Garage rearranged:
party lights activated:
Maintenance:
Ready to go:
Twinning at C&C:
Fresh gas on the way home:

My 1970 sedan and my 1971 Convertible each had birthday parties. I've owned the 1970 since 1972, and the 1971 since 1976 !!!!

So last week as I was taking a walk through a park I was thinking about numbers and years as I tend to do. Suddenly I realized that my 73 VW is now 50 years old! Half a century!! It was several years too new for antique plates when we first dragged it home.
This newfangled dashboard and panoramic windshield was brand new 50 years ago. It still seems modern to me.
Sorry I'm just dumbfounded realizing that this car is now 50 years old.

Awesome pic - three early (flat screen / 1302) Supers in a row!!
Did the orange one have the "Super Bug" stripes above the running board too? |
