I drove over 500 miles and made it home yesterday. No real issues on this trip. Had a great time at Burning Man.

A few things of note:
1. My power window regulator broke. Easy replacement, to be done in the coming days.
2. The van ran poorly when leaving the playa. When I reached pavement, I stopped and blew the engine out with a leaf blower, changed the air filter, and wiped off the distributor. The van ran well after this.

Now let the cleaning begin!

This certainly beats the tent I was in last year!

CONGRATS, Enjoy!!!

For those that go out to the playa, the dust IS incredibly alkaline. I've found both of these products to neutralize and take off the dust very well:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Calgon-Water-Softener-3...EIQAvD_BwE

https://www.westmarine.com/salt-away-salt-away-tre...wQQAvD_BwE

I've never taken my van and wouldn't as it's 'too nice' but there is a VW camp (aka VW Bus Camp) out there with many vans and buses.

We took our daughters to Burning man. They were super-stoked. Now they go without us....

Power washer definitely gets the looses stuff off, but doesn't get the white paste off.

It depends how you look at it. I suppose the local is satisfied.
Try rinsing playa dust off glass.
You will "see" that it does not rinse off.
It doesn't respond to soap, I suppose because it's basic.

Vinegar helps get it off.

My granddad was too old to fight in the war, world war two that is. so he built Liberty ships as a shipyard foreman. He drove a hearse, yeah he bought a hearse, put more seats in it and used it to car pool shipyard workers to and from work, he got extra tire and gas ration coupons for doing this as it was war effort related. He was born before man first flew an airplane. grandma was raised in a one room cabin with a dirt floor. She didnt leave the farm until she was 19, taking her first train ride. her first ride on other than a horse or wagon. Them was the days, hip and cool were not even terms except for parts of the body or the weather.

1966 I attended a Rolling Stones concert at the Lagoon amusement park near Salt Lake City. Cost was $2.50 and we were dancing 5 to 10 feet away from the stage. You want cool. Didn't have a VW Van but had a 1966 Beetle. It was still 20 years before I bought my current Vanagon new in 1986.

Yikes - tickets start at $575 plus taxes and "fees"

Not that I was ever planning on making that trek

I go out there frequently for non-burning man activities.

I asked a local how to get playa off your vehicle: power washer was his answer.

Mmm, maybe that depends on where they grew up? My folks were in their teens when they had me in the 70s. My mom's proudest achievement is being the head of her high school's chapter of "Future Homemakers of America".

They didn't have the chance to be cool, raising a kid before they even grew up themselves. Maybe that makes them cooler than me but, I have friends the same age as my parents that I've had lots of fun times with while my folks sit around and do nothing.

I saw the Dead before Jerry died. My folks drug me to the Oakridge Boys. I think I win the "cool" contest. Laughing

I can't hold a candle to my grandparents though. One grampa saved a guy from falling into a cauldren of liquid metal at Johnstown Steel. The other was a Navy salvage diver. It's a shame cigarettes took 'em both out while they were in their 50s. I hardly got to know them.

Haha, yep I'm definitely taking the van. One of the main reasons I have it. From what I've been told, my grandparents took it once years ago. I'm honestly not super worried about the dust. This will be my 3rd year. I'm aware that a cleanup will be needed after.

Is it really hip and edgy if your grandparents did it? Wink

Grandparents, yes

Parents, no

Funnily enough, my parents go too. They are cooler than me.

Let's just say my 1990 van is older than me.

My kids are well into their 40's....... they are far from old.

Drove my ‘81 out to Black Rock Desert, from Tahoe City, only for a photo op.
I’d never bring it out there for Burning Man.
Good luck with the clean up!

When did the OP mention "hip and edgy"? This sounds like a needless insight to your projections.

that's heavy dude, like real man. Is you saying the burningman aint hip nor edgy? Shocked
Tell me it aint so man. Confused
