Lots of interior areas that needed attention but now we are off to a good start on the exterior skins. Using the laser level to assure alignment as we go.

Once the doors are hung and alignment is looking good we Locked them in place with a couple tabs. Now it’s time to tackle the inner rocker panels as well as the outer rocker skins, and lower fender panels

Time to hang the doors again and see how the look and fell after the hinges being sorted out.

We will also be leaving them on as we install the adjacent panels so we can make the appropriate gaps as we go.

They look and feel great so we are off to a good start.

So what I discovered when I first stared rebuilding hinges whether it be bug , bus , or ghia is that 9 times out of 10 just doing the pin is not enough. The slop between the male and female counterparts almost always needs to be built back up and taken back down again to make a tight fit. I use this copper rod when welding so that the center stays nice and circular.

I do not have a mill but have found doing this by hand with the micrometer is very achievable. When it’s all said and done the two halves are very snug.

The Layout Table doesn’t lie.

Only 0.1 degree difference front to back.

It will stay pinned down like this while we weld the cap on , when we flip it over to do the pan halves we will pin it down again while welding them in.
