Glass action does make this style glove box for ghias and bugs but not for type 3's. the reason being that bugs and ghias glove boxes go through the car and into the trunk having limitless space. type 3's glove boxes simply hide behind the dash. This isn't really enough room to fit a deck of anysorts unless its a very shallow deck or te section behind the dash is cut allowing the wires to fit into the trunk. This is all assuming you have custom fabbed a glovebox toi hold a deck, because the bug and ghia ones won't fit.

Actually you can easily fit some of the new all digital faceplates. Of course no CD....but some of them are very nice.

There is a channel I watch occasionally on Youtube (Williston Audio) by a guy that runs electronic "dyno" testing on amplifiers and head units. He is actually well regarded and often quoted.

He did a review about 3 years ago of a Blaupunkt digital head unit he got for about $10 Laughing ...and it was actually impressive! It is the Blaupunkt Toronto TNT1049. Its like $32 on amazon!

Check out the review here:

There are many brands and models of head units like this now. Just listing this as a sample of one I know of. Its actually hard to find one of these for over $100. Ray

I put one in my son's notch. I removed the glove box itself and made an aluminum plate to support the radio. It worked just fine and was out of sight. Couldn't put much else in there however.

I purchased a spare box for my solution. (I hate ruining my original glove box) I have placed a 25mm wiring grommet at the back driver side of the spare box for the wiring. I am keeping the Blaupunkt Essen or installing my Blaupunkt Derby in the normal radio location for looks and a small profile unit in the glove box that has an SD slot for my MP3s
The speakers are low watt to be mounted on the upper carpet on the inner front fenders
This is one of my side efforts as I get Gretchen ready.
(I think Notchboy commented initially I am all over the place on my restoration plans. True, but it keeps me busy as I do the hard stuff such as pan replacement, Brakes, front Apron, etc.)

I made my own out of fiberglass back when CDs were a thing so it's a full size deck. Used the original cardboard insert as a mold, saved the original. The top is open to allow the deck to sit level.

since my oil/volts/temp gauges are mounted in the old style radio mount below the dash i did the same thing and mounted my unit in the glove box.... but i bought the cheapy Dual 15$ mp3/bluetooth/ radio unit in an stamped steel mount reinforced to the paper box in mine... since its so light I have no worries of damaging it further
