I think they are the same to 55, then 55-59 I think they got a little ridge put in them if I remember correctly. _________________ I own a copy of "The Car of the Century" by Garwood. This means I am authorized to act like a twat in thesamba forums. |

| Hi Surfindo, yes, 55-59 is different, but they will fit on your bus, I know several people have them on their barndoor busses... when you grab these handles, you'll feel the difference on the inside: they feel much thicker on the inside of the handle itself, later models are not that thick or heavy... I can't give you the exact 211-.... numbers now, the only bus handle I could find here at home, is a very early one I believe, it's a L-211.052 from HUF which also shows the old KDF logo instead of a regular VW... but it came of a Barndoor... I checked the barndoor.dk also, in the 'details and changes', but there where no numbers, sorry!! I'll try to make a picture of that old handle and post it later this week, ok? |

....sorry for the poor photo quality !! the handle above is a later one, 55-59, under it the old one with KDF logo, from a very early barndoor, this just to show you the difference in thickness of the handle itself... |

Hi 'thebucket' , my KDF handle is 211 052, it's driver's side, so with key, is yours passengerside maybe?? that might be the difference... and yes, they where on early type 1's, but I was told they also came on very early barndoors...? at least, the handle I've got, came from an early '51... also, I believe the KDF handles on type & beetles, where on standards, so not chromed... is that true or...? |

hi "thebucket", yes, that's what I tought, yours is passengers side, pair numbers in the end ...052 should be driver's side, odd numbers, like your ....051 is passenger... and, yes, you say yours was chromed once, so it was for a standard beetle... busses never had unchromed ones as far as I know...
Surfindo, I hope you'll find the correct ones for a 54, I can't find the correct numbers, someone else maybe...? |

...I suppose you mean that KDF style handle?? No idea in fact... I got mine for free, but I saw one in Camberg too... that was 80 euro, in good condition, still unchromed... |

the key for 54 is the same through 63.
through 53 there is a smaller key. I am not sure exactly when the change was, actually. But you can compare with your rear hatch and cargo door locks. It is not the same as the ig key.
The ridged handle is beetle. the bd one is cruder on the inside than the 55-later ones. Through ~53 they used the earlier style partnumbers, 54- on the later... dunno exactly when that changed either, could be when they changed the key _________________ The Obsolete Air-Cooled Documentation Project http://oacdp.org/ |

hi Hebster, I've got the same one, same number, also with KDF logo, but it came from a '51 barndoor bus... if you need them for an early bus, I think you found the good ones! ...try them first G. |

Hello!! I saw your Topic a long time ago, and yes, it's hard the tell what's correct, you wrote: '...There are also handles with the number L-211-051/52 these handle are usually sold as Split Beetle handles and are Huf and have a Huf lock and key. '
well, yes, many people think they're fro split beetle... I'm not so sure, never had a split beetle, only early busses, and I saw them more then once on busses! ...but we'll never be 100% sure I guess!! |

Vanya !!! ...not sure of beetle, never had an early beetle, my oldest beetle was a 57 oval... hey Tovarish, latest news: tomorrow morning, we'll fly to CCCP !!! really!! to Volgograd, old Stalingrad, as you might remember from the good old days, many many many soldiers got killed there those days, I'll try to find some more KDF parts over there, ok?? some large 16 inch'ers from KDF will look different then other earlies, no?? you know what I mean, right? so hope to see you later in Europe, at least, when we get back alive from CCCP!! Paka!... G. |
