Yep and rockauto.com also.

Don't forget to google "partsgeek coupon code" and find a code for 3 to 5% off also.

I've used Partsgeek often and highly recommend them.

Rockauto lost my business with lousy customer service and very expensive shipping (one order may result in packages coming from several locations... and you gotta pay shipping on each package).

Got a Vanagon window motor from them a couple of months ago. Fast delivery and the price was (as I recall) about $99 with shipping. Original Bosch motor in the box. About 40% to 50% cheaper than our favorite Vanagon vendors.

I've gotten Mk1 stuff from partsgeek, cheap shipping....only beef is the shipping time is a little slow, sometimes 2-3 days for me.

but really, with the price of shipping and the prices in general...its worth it.

rockauto sucks.

My new fave place is here...

http://www.autohausaz.com/

bought all my vanagon hoses and stuff from them

I've found that I can call the contact numbers if they don't have something listed on the webstores and they'll source it and return a price quote promptly.

I order from Partsgeek and www.germanautoparts.com regularly. and am more then satisfied with both.
infact I've had items delivered the next day (once on a sat no less) when I only specified/paid for regular shipping.
they'll do what they can to get the parts to you ASAP
also I've Emailed Germanautoparts.com about pricing comparisons with partsgeek before and they'll check the pricing and adjust the website price if they can.. more then I could ask.. but when I do they're good.

for my 3rd string I use www.diyautoparts.com as they are right here in my city, and I can pick up parts the next day from thier store on my way home. though I have to pay tax on those purchases, I save shipping $$ and they have more on their webstore.

I've used partsgeek on quite a bit with great success. Most recently was for upper ball joints. I picked up a pair of Moogs with black dust covers for the price of the clear covers. Lots of tune up stuff as well as Empi axles. Always great service and quick delivery.

I don't care for the E word either but for 1/2 the price of shop time maintenance I can pop in two axle assemblies before breakfast every 30K.
Works for me.

I used them for some parts on some parts for my watercooled VW's and some of their prices are amazing, and similar to the experiences described above, I got the parts the next day when I just ordered standard shipping. I always check them first now. I'm glad to hear you were pleased!

Vendors like Parts Geek and Frugal Mechanics have direct links through large auto warehouses ( World-Pac etc...) that are located throughout the country.

They place your order through one of the warehouses thats closest to your location....all done by computer. If you check out a photo of the part your interested in, you might see the World-Pac image in the picture even though you might be on the Geeks/Frugal/Discount Auto/Auto Warehouse/AutoAnything....etc Web-site.

If you have ordered through any of those vendors, check out the printed invoice that came with the order. Every invoice looks the same except for the name of the actual vendor you placed the order with. The part was actually shipped from one of those large warehouses spread over the country.

On 6/16/10 I placed an online order with Parts Geek..they are out of Allenwood New Jersey. On 6/18/2010 at 11:23 AM UPS delivered my order to me in San Francisco, California.

My order was processed and shipped out of a large auto parts warehouse in Menlo Park, California....hence the "quicker than gossip" delivery time.

SO I learned my lesson. My first order I payed for overnight shipping.. Well I placed my second order on Friday morning and since UPS does not deliver up here on the weekends I am recieving my parts on Monday and I only paid for standard shipping!! I guess I am even happier knoiwing I dont need to pay for overnight shipping when I am in a crunch!!

I understand the complaints about rockauto, you do need to check shipping to see if it is reasonable and coming from 1 location and not multiple.

But at times when you are looking for a certain name brand part they seem to have the oddball stuff I'm looking for.

I think that is why the shipping can get high at times. If only 1 warehouse in the country has what you need it can't drop ship from the closest warehouse.

If the rest of the public only new how they are over paying.

Jeff

I get my oil filters from Van Cafe. They have a package discount on Mann/Mahle - set of 4 Oil Filters for $17.95. Of course, the shipping brings it up to or close to the regular price, but I generally order other parts (we always need other parts too right?) at the same time. At least I'm good for oil filters for a year that way.

I went through the same issues your having...poor communications. I finally did get ahold of three people at diffesrnt times but it took me quite a few times to speak with someone.

The three different people I ended up talking to had very heavy accents..I think the are out of The Philippines Wink .

Tried to get one person to match another vendors price and I would have gotten better results discussing the matter with my pet Parrot whos name is Kaiser.

I gave up after that episode.
