Posted: Wed May 01, 2013 1:18 pm Post subject: PSA: J30R9 fuel hose for less than $.50/foot!!! |
|
|
i recently read through a bunch of threads trying to determine the best fuel line to purchase for a newly acquired syncro. based on the wisdom of some venerable forum members in these threads:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4...p;start=20
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=510481&highlight=dayco+fuel
it seems like the goodyear part # 65152 (5/16", J30R9 designation) was the most highly recommended. after chasing down links in many posts, i was unable to find it for less than $100 for a 25 foot roll. defeated, i decided to order the "almost as good" hose that volks-cafe sells.... but they were out, so back to searching.
the Dayco website gives 80089 as their cross-reference part number for the goodyear one. there were a few links given as well for this, but again the updated prices were in the $4/foot range. but during the days that i was searching, amazon must have got some for mighty cheap, because all of a sudden they have a 25 foot roll available for $13.27!!!!
http://www.amazon.com/Dayco-80089-Fuel-Injection-H...ayco+80089
if you click on the link for other vendors of that part, there are 5 listings, ranging in price from $99.81 to $191.16. so i figured i was taking a gamble when i ordered it for so much less... but it was eligible for free shipping so i gave it a try.
just got the package and would like to confirm that it appears to be the correct stuff! the package and hose both bear the correct part number and SAE designation.
they must have some kind of overstock situation so i thought i'd get the word out... now is the time to stock up on good fuel hose!! |

So how many feet to do a full swap? Can't imagine it's more than 25ft.
Never mind, found it in another post, 25th should do your van twice! |

Did you see the prices on the smaller diameter hoses as well? It's $7 to $8 a roll for hose that sells elsewhere for over $100. It might be a good investment for another vehicle or maybe for the smaller hoses on the gasoline expansion tanks. Doesn't require F.I. rated hose for that application, but might be cheaper than standard hose elsewhere.

I bought some of each.
The lower quality 30r7 hose cost ~ twice of what the 30r9 FI rated hose does, explain that one. |

thats a good deal. I just spend $100 for some Gates hose and some FI clamps from NAPA this last weekend and changed all my hoses. That was with a new fuel filter too ($15), so still a bit cheaper than the fuel hose kits available from the reputable vendors online _________________ '88 vanagon*****'91 gti 1.8t*****'04 r32*****'11 suburban z71 |

I should have ordered as soon as I saw the post, but I didn't, and missed out.
There are some sellers on eBay selling Gates Barricade for $32 for 25 feet or $20 for 15 feet. I'm having trouble finding out if it meets the 30R9 standard. It is lined, rated at 225 psi.
Not as cheap as the original post, but doesn't seem too bad.

Gates Barricade meets the 30r14 standards which are a bit confusing as there are both a high and low pressure 30r14 rated hoses. The 225psi hose is the high pressure hose. 30r14 high pressure hose is basically the same as 30r9 hose but is less permeable. |

Wow! I ordered two rolls last night and they listed 20 rolls remaining when I ordered.
Already got confirmation that it is shipping today
I did order two rolls to get the free shipping but really only need to use one. That means I have an extra roll if anyone didn't get in on this in time.
Edit - received PM and the extra roll is spoken for.... _________________ Dave O
