|
|
I'm working on painting a 66 Bug and have a question regarding masking.
I'm going to paint the bug 2-tone. White sides, green top and sides.
We are (omitting EVERY step..):
Stripping the body down to bare metal
Priming with Duplicolor Paint Shop Primer
Painting the sides white
Masking off what I want to stay white
Spraying the rest green
Remove masking tape
Clear Coating
My question is, what should I do to prevent the masking tape pulling off white paint when I remove it? I plan to wait 24 hours between spraying the white and masking to give the paint time to cure.
What else should I do?? _________________ North Bay Air Cooled - VW Club in Napa, CA

If you're going to wait 24 hours, you'll be fine. BUT, check the product info sheet, as you might find out it's too long of a wait before shooting the clear. I only say that, as PPG's Deltron paint needs to be clear coated within 24 hours of being sprayed, or it has to be re-coated. Most times, 4 to 6 hours is all you need between tape off, and 8 or more hours, it's fully dry (at 70*). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Definitely check the spec sheet for taping time. They will list it. Try to stay within your windows. Use good quality tape designed for automotive applications.
Doing a two tone take planning. |
