Hey guys , i wanna add an alternator to my dragster.
After couple runs it starts getting weak and heavy to start. Due to no electricity available at the airfield i wanna put a one wire mini race alternator on .
Would love to get one from Jaycee , but:
599$ & approx 100 shipping to Luxembourg & 7% import tax & 17 % vat would bring me to 875 $ which is a bit expensive Sad
Therefore I am looking for an alternative to build myself, maybe somebody can help me with a p/n from denso so I can see to get an alt over here.
And if someone has a drawing with measurements for the bracket ?
Or even the cnc program ? Very Happy
Thanks for any advise , help or picture from your setup
Greets
Sam

I don't know what your cooling setup is, if you have a fan, etc..

But you can add an alternator :

Just thin hollow steel tube, well triangulated, and an extra pulley, stock mounting points (1 coil thread, 1 upper exhaust stud, 1 front engine stud) I'm using an old inner valve spring as a tensioner. The alternator puts out 90 Amps, with a completely separate circuit.

not sure how that helps, but it gets the topic flowing.

Any small, "one wire" type alternator can be made to work. I've often heard of an alternator from a Toyota forklift (lift truck) as being the best bang for the buck. Unfortunately I don't have any detailed info.

Oh, it's assumed you'll have to do your own fabrication to mount it. With that said, alternators will put out power no matter which direction they rotate, so if you had to you could mount it "backwards".

Thanks a lot , the JPM looks like a good one for me . The price is ok , and due to Sweden is in the EU i dont have to pay import and VAT taxes .
I think i give it a try Wink

Or maybe a spare battery to swap out when the charge gets low?

Small generator and battery charger to run while in pit or in start line up....

most racers charge between rounds. other than that you can just get a small alt from whatever and put it on.I dont care if they have 1,2 or 3 wires going to them. and you can wire up a full throttell cut off switch so it isant deawing more power going down the track. also the size of the drive pully can be alturd to get the rpm of the alt down and engine power draw down too.
there are some realy small alts out there nowdays.
