|
|
Apparently these are NLA, according to everyone here in this forum. I know this sounds stupid (and prolly won't work since no one else has come up with this idea yet), but has anyone tried using popout seals for the square/notch, since they're cheap and readily available? Are the Fasty popouts bigger or smaller than the square/notch? If they are smaller, then the square/notch seals could be cut smaller and re-glued. If the fasty windows are bigger, then two seals could be spliced together to form the correct length. Any thoughts on this? _________________ OGST

ok, so I'm retarded. For some reason VW designed the FB seals DIFFERENT than the square/notch. Why doesn't anyone make seals for the fasty's? There's enough of them out there! WCM, WTF? _________________ OGST

As I understand it, it's too complex a piece of rubber, and the industry doesn't think that there's enough of a market. After all, it's not a bug. _________________ My mind not only wanders, sometimes it leaves completely.

Entirely different set-up. On the fastback the glass actually bends. Because of this the seal only covers about 1/4 of the glass on the outside (if that much) and it has a metal piece inserted in the middle of the rubber for rigidity. There is also 4 metal retaining clips on each side (inner/outer).

Yeah, they are NLA, and have been since 1991. Your best bet is to keep an eye out for some in the Samba classifieds, or bite the bullet and get some from the Type 3 detectives. There's not really much of a choice out there, and nobodies doing repops of them. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
