another one of those PO things that just makes you shake your head...rattle can black the fender well, and front suspension, and all the dirt/grease as well.
at least it's just paint, and not the tar undercoat that was all over the rear end.
the nice thing is there is very little rust under there
got some cleaning and painting done while the dash is out, I have a nice replacement that needs to get picked up in a week or so.
Might as well clean up the wiring, wipers, ducts, and all that while there is easy access. Need to order a 12v washer bottle upgrade and a couple switches that were trashed too

To me, that wheel well is pure porn. Aside from the undercoating, it looks original or repaired as per factory. The paint and body work are clearly not a lipstick on pig kind of job, which is the first thing I think of when I see a bus with nice paint.
I like the painted underside. The factory undercoating is nasty stuff and was sprayed on everything including mechanical parts. I painted the rear 1/3 underside of my bus a light grey. It’s way easier to see and work under there without getting smeared by the decades of oil and road grime that accumulates on the bottom of a bus. |

The underside is why I bought it, it was pretty darn good.
The wheel wells had the usual cracked and delaminating seal sealer with some surface rust, so lots of scrubbing and poking around got it clean and ready to seal and repaint.
I just can’t leave it knowing there was some rust underneath _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

A couple updates, added another hose to the output of the heater, it will help get more air flow into the center tree.
And added an ultra-gauge for more consistent subi gauges, the blue driver connection was working sometimes and sometimes not.
A little 3m tape on a plastic wedge to hold it
And it sits nicely on the Velcro in the corner.
Tons of gauge settings available on itl

Stopped by the wind gauge when we were out for a drive
Even got to turn on the heat/defrost the other day
Still fiddling with little things around the bus to get it just right
Need to make a seat on the console for my new copilot, he’s a Velcro dog and the passenger seat is too far away for him

The Bus looks great!
My previous rescue (Black Lab/Rotti cross) and our current rescue Chihuahua/Jack Russell cross, always want(ed) to be either at our side or on our laps. With our current little guy, if I take him for a drive in the Bus without my wife, although he starts in the passenger seat, he usually makes his way over and tries to climb into my lap. I have to put him back a few times before he settles down in the passenger seat. _________________ *******************************

We are now into the dull grey/brown season that comes after the leaves turn
Still sticks out like a sore thumb wherever you go
I do like the ability to turn on the fan and have warm air blast out of the vents

He is settling in to his new home, poor guy never had any sign language and he just turned two. That would suck not being able to communicate, not sure why his last couple owners didn’t at least try, maybe he was a yard dog for them _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

How is Charlie riding in the bus? Sherman is a Velcro bully, gotta be touching someone all the time, so he sits on the Center console _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php

Charlie Girl just sits in the passenger seat. Sometimes she'll hop down and go for a walk in the back area.

Sherman got his first ride in the sidecar this week too, he was a little nervous about it at first. But once he figured out that he could see and smell out in the wind, he settled down into his copilot seat and took it all in

Marketplace score!
$90 for Thule 953 feet and bars. Been looking off and on for a couple years, thinking we can bring a canoe along camping and do some fishing

camping trip was cut short by 2 days of rain pushing in from down south
It started out great, 25c at the lake , but we got up this morning and it started raining, we waited for 6 hours before pulling the plug and heading for home
Sucks we even had a canoe along to do some fishing
100kph, 2700rpm and coolant temps at 83-85c in the foothills
Provincial Park and hardly anyone there during the week

Nice! We had rain Friday night and Sat until mid day and then it gradually cleared and we had a nice sunny afternoon. Clouds started rolling in again in the evening but we saw some stars Sat night then mainly cloudy on Sunday for the trip home. Enjoy your week. _________________ *******************************

Bah, the wife was feeling crappy before we left, and now we are both sick with whatever flu she dragged home from work before her 2 week holiday
I have everything out drying in the sun, finally got some sunshine to air the soggy stuff out.
We are booked for camping this weekend with friends, but we’ll have to wait and see how long it takes for this cough, aches, sore throat, and runny nose to clear _________________ http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/jim_martin_engine_build.php
