westies also....
I have had a seven PG/SG buses over the years. I am down to just a couple now. a '58 walkthrough standard and a '58 westfalia. they were produced about a week apart from each other in june '58. both have the lipped decklid. the westy is dry and straight, and the standard isn't.
westfalias didn't have the pinstripe like standards.
my old standard:

My 57 standard. I've got a lot of paint removal ahead of me. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two.

There appears to be a difference in the interior panel colours between the earlier and later pg/sg's.
Is this just lighting differences, or were there two different colour schemes?
My May 58 panels looks very"green" like Lind's, but beaterBarndoor's 55 looks like a completely different colour scheme. _________________ The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance, but the illusion of knowledge

It has to do with the way it fades in the sun. Lind's interior is very sunfaded. |

Here is a picture of the famed 57 standard with 5604 original miles on it. This is before the lower 1/2 was repainted. I just found the pictures the other day, so let me know if you want to see any specific details.
Barn fresh - no polishing or cleaning had been done yet.

Here's my current passion, my '57 Standard, built Dec. '56. A good friend saved it from the crusher for $100, I got it from him on March 3rd, and I've been on it since bringing it back to life. Getting an engine together right now, and should have it running soon. It hasn't been on the road since 1982.
Here's how it looked the first time I saw it.

I used Easy Off to remove the brushed on house paint on my 58. The SG is not as resistant as the thin PG ,and will burn through quick to a white sealer before you know it.
The way it weathered in the house paint made the PG looks brushed on in spots.
I got a lotta rust to fix so I had the inside of the decklid (polished) matched at the local Gladwin and compressed into spray cans. They gave me Nason YS519IE Spectramaster Yellow fast dry AE for the SG. I painted the safaris and some late door frames with Krylon Camo olive with clear, near perfect match. |

Here is my old bus. The day I brought it home. I had a weak moment and sold it to buy another split beetle.
