I found this pic a number of years ago on the Internet and have had it as my background for many years (this is a cleaned-up version I worked on and changed the format to 16:9):
I was curious to see if the building was still there so started doing some digging. I found out it was Albert Zeisler Autohaus in Wupertal region of Germany. Apparently, it was well known as a VW dealer but previously sold Fords:
I hopped on google maps and was able to find the exact location, very unique with the suspended train which is still operation. All of the Zeisler showroom and main building are gone but if you look at the building on the right/front of the pic, you can see its a match (shape of the windows/shutters and railing). Note google maps distorts the image a bit.
Yes, I'm a nerd with this stuff. Hope you enjoy. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches

Nice detective work.
I wonder why the building was taken down?
Maybe deemed too close to the track supports?
The building behind the VW dealer is gone too |
Yep, could be the proximity to the track as its pretty close and they have rebuilt those supports and the tracks itself many times over the years (according to the history page). The building in the back is also part of the dealer (you can see the VW logo on the building), I'm guessing the front building was just their showroom. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Just found this thread. I took this photo yesterday. Jack Feely closed in 2009. I can't remember exactly when they ripped out the showroom floor and service bays, but it is a bummer. My guess is around 2015.
I remember when Rich Yost used to work there and my dad buying NOS round mirrors from the service department for $20 a pair. _________________

Apple Maps shows it still there. Yelp says it’s permanently closed. I guess I’ll have to do a drive by.
Current view of the dealership taken 08/20/25. Mission Bay Chevrolet next door to close and high rise apartments to be built in its place. Probably the same to happen to the old VW building too. |
