60 - early 1961 as it has the "60 only" safety guards on the cargo door hinges, which were really used through early 1961 when the hinges were made smaller and moved lower down. _________________ How to Post Photos

Yes, it is St. Ives, England on the southwest corner. Lots of surfers around in wetsuits. Lots of really nice, newer VW campers that were never imported to North America. If I had a chance to get a TDI poptop, maybe I would have two buses. My friends say there is another split in town with sideways facing seats (mini tour bus?). I'm keeping an eye open for that one.

Were you on your way to St. Ives? Did the driver of the bus have seven wives, each wife with seven sacks, each sack with seven cats? |

About 7 blocks from me is a new 23 window deluxe. Any idea of the year? To me it has a very Brazilian feel to it. He has Christmas lights on and in it and an elf in the drivers seat all which look great at night. I'll try and get a photo of that. This marks the 3rd split bus in my 3.3 sq mile town. So far it's been there for a few weeks in both sun and rain. If he leaves it out in the snow I might not be able to drive past it on my daily commute.
Not only does it look Brazilian but it also looks very familiar, recent ebay, bring a trailer or thesamba? If it is Brazilian please post the details as I don't see the chrome above the drivers door which is one obvious detail and I haven't looked at the inside. Teach me more professors.

Have you considered simply starting with a nicer bus? I don't know what your skills are, but the race is easier if you can see the finish line. If you are not a runner, don't start off doing a marathon. |

I'm saying Brazilian too
The skylight windows that look like they are not sunk into the roof are a Brazilian "feature".

Hard to see in this photo but no cargo door handle indent would be a huge flag here that it's Brazilian.
I can see it's high hinge but has 63 style rear wheel arches and mid-63 - up innie intake vents so I'm saying Brazilian again _________________ How to Post Photos

Looks as if it still has a Brazilian License plate. crooked doglegs, sagged doors, somewhat uneven lower longside repair, solid amber turn signals, and all what has been said before about hi hinge, inner vents, wheel opening and such. the lower nose paint divider/DlX trim fit looks very phoney as well. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

Not sure if I've seen this type of Safaris before.

On the island full of golf carts, Suzuki Samurais and Scion IQs, this might be the only split window. Parked near Chet’s Hardware on Catalina Island.

It's easier to tell from the other side because you can see if it's high hinge and/or has a flat cargo door but I would say Yes.
The skylights look weird to me, like they were added.
I'm guessing they installed those jailbars too as they go through the middle of the window. Originals are down lower. _________________ How to Post Photos

Guessing Brazil on that one. The luggage bars are in the middle of the rear windows, why would someone go to all that trouble to do it incorrectly? _________________ "OG = Original German" -- TheSamba.com dictionary |

My guess was based on innie vents, outie wheel lip, icepick, and corner windows with narrow hatch on fried egg. |
