Made patch pieces for the holes. Tacked them completely in until I got the hole seam covered.

I then ground the welds down until it was smooth.

Cut this piece out too. This part is partially under the radio.

Ohhh I did not see this thread until today, had no idea you were working on a 2nd beetle, and what a cool car/story it is!

Thanks for documenting the metal fabrication, rust repair... I plan to do this with my 57, body off. Probably this summer, after a lot of practice on the MIG with scrap... Smile

Keep up the good work. Thanks for 2 inspiring threads.

My friend is a nitrous distributor and that was an empty bottle he had kicking around that he uses to fill customers small bottles. Surprisingly this was only $20 more to fill than one of those small 3ft bottles, so it seemed worth it.

And thanks Artifact. There's still a lot more work to do, but I figure after everything my old man has done for me the least I can do is get his car together the right way Laughing

How worried should I be that the "top" is on the bottom? This must have been like this for the life of the time my father owned it. Would it as simple as un-clipping the rockers and flipping them?
