I spoke to a local car restoration friend of mine today, and asked if he knew the bus owner, he said yes, he had had some dealings with him. My friend did verify that if you go onto the property where the bus is, for any reason, you will get shot at. _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

I remember reading this thread when it came out first 10 years ago. And I thought to myself. I bet that fella will not let go of that bus. He would rather let it rot into the ground than see someone else buy it and get use out of it. Some people are just like that. Possession of something is their thing. And ownership. Weird. But very common. As much of an oxymoron that might sound. I know of maybe 7 bay window busses here in the west of Ireland that have just returned to the ground. Dormobile and westfalia as well. Just rotted into the earth. Same owner says. Yes yes. I must sell them. Money placed in front of his face and no dice. . A shame, here in west of Ireland with the climate etc. Then there is the hoarder element. We all have a touch of that particular trait. Very Interesting thread. Thanks for the updates. Hope no one gets shot. |

Real estate and automobiles sometimes only change hands due to death. Keep an eye out for a death notice related to the property. A financial gain means nothing to some.Good luck. _________________ 1959 Model M1: 118

I sent another letter in Jan. '23 with return receipt requested and a stamped return post card. I got the signed request back in 3 days, but didn't even get the post card mailed back to me and checked "not for sale"
I haven't given up, but need to come up with some other idea.
I am wondering how old this guy is that owns the bus. _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

So, last month I did the same as 2 years ago. I got the same "results".
Sure would like to save that bus. _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

The Google street view has changed. Maybe drive over in your VW and ring the keypad there on the left to see if he will talk. Or park out front on a weekend and see if he drives through the gate. Bring lots of green pieces of paper to motivate a conversation. Clearly the post cards are not moving the needle.

Would be ironic if he'd sold the bus to fund the gate. _________________ Craig K

Thanks. Good idea. I can drive up there in a couple of days. It's worth a try. _________________ '64 single cab Big Bend Bus Bash 2015 '16

I'd throw in the towel, dealt with too many hoarder quacks to know better at this point. Theres no amount of money in the world that would sway this guy, he gets off on being withholding.
I used to text a guy about a thing that was in a barn, no engine, basically a rolling shell full of racoon shit. It was a nice straight relatively rust free thing. Every time I would give him a holler about selling it he would simply say "if the money is right, sure" Well the money was more than right, to the point that I questioned my decision making skills but I'm sure its still sitting there. Its a game to these people. |
