Didn't make the "drive this summer" target, maybe by Thanksgiving so I'll have time to add break in miles. The upholstery work has started
Finished the wiring, came out clean and simple.
So much survivor quality, sneak in the dual master reservoir.
A couple paint touch ups
Picked up a 6" Canton oil filter, bullet proof
Been waiting for a long time to add the club sticker.

Thanks Tram! The upholstery is being done by Lee's Custom Upholstery in Youngstown Ohio. I got the cloth material from SMS Auto Fabrics, it's a pattern from a '60 Pontiac. _________________ Drive 'em!

Missed another target. Rear seat pattern did not match the front seats and the quality was not the same. Moving on to another upholsterer. Spring is just around the corner.

On the road now putting on break-in miles. Little fixes here and there, more to come. Now that the suspension has settled in, it is about 1/2" lower on one side. With the addition of the dropped spindles, the front is now too low, will work on that as time allows. For now, I rolled the fender lip. Tires have less than 1k miles but are 15 years old so will need replaced.
Cleaned up and installed the original door cards and trim. Coco mats.
Engine runs strong but carbs need some additional tweaks. I have an AFR meter on my list of additions. I added shrouding to fill the gap from the alternator conversion.
Coming up on an oil change and valve adjustment. Club meeting this Thursday will be first outing. _________________ Drive 'em!

It's looking good Jim. I know it's been a long time coming too, as I know it's been a while since you last drove it from talking to you in person years ago. The interior looks good, as does the alt conversion. I see you took my advice on going with the nyloc nuts on the filler panel. Have fun with the car, as it needs some miles put on it. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

So, Ohio isn't throwing salt? I'm still waiting until we stop getting snow (4 inches today so far). I've seen the salt truck go by scraping and salting twice so far. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Needed new tires and took the opportunity to change the wheels. Not many performance tire options in 15". Went with Yokahama Advan Fleva, 205/50-17 rear, 195/55-15 front.
I had switched to Beetle short axles in the rear to gain space for the previous wheels. With the 17x7s and the short axles I need a spacer to get clearance for the bump stop and the spring plate. I might take time this summer to switch back to the T3 axles rather than run the spacer. Initial fitment with 3/4" spacer is tight, I expect I'll need to roll the fender lip. Likely need to trim the bump stop landing pad or maybe add a limit strap (swing axle).
Tough to get a shot that accurately shows the clearance.

Made it out to the local cars and coffee and talked with Bruce who had a killer 67 Beetle. Big, beautiful engine, lots of subtle custom work, happy to find another local VW aficionado. New tires are always a joy, I'm really digging the staggered wheels. Keep tacking on the break-in miles.

Latest updates: I raised the front one inner spline, the ride is sooo much better. BerT3 dropped spindles doing their job. Also leveled the rear side to side and the stance is now done. When I took the Notch in for alignment I learned the passenger tie rod adjusting sleeve is bent. I looked through the classifieds and don't seen anything available. ISP does not appear to list the adjusting sleeve but I have not called yet. I did see a classified ad for a left inner tie rod end which appears to include the adjusting sleeve so that might be an option. Does anyone know if the left and right adjusting sleeves are interchangeable? The one in the classifieds is also a later model, 68-73, any thoughts if that would work for my '65?
Continuing to work on finishing the interior. Received my door panels from Sewfine, looking forward to installing those. One backward step, the covers for the front seats are beautiful and I'm really happy with the fabric selection, however, since I hadn't driven the car for 15 years, I forgot the driver seat is just not comfortable (maybe it's because I'm 15 years older). After much searching for a period correct looking seat, I purchased a Cobra Roadster XL. I'll try the seat out of a month or two and if it works out I'll have it recovered to match.
I still need to get my carbs dialed in, running way too rich. Got some advice from Alstrup over on the Performance forum that my exhaust is too big for my setup so I picked up a 2" cone for the CSP Python. When I pull the muffler to add the cone, I plan to get a bung welded in to add an O2 sensor to measure AFR as I tweak the carbs. Also got some feedback that my carb linkage needs the angles corrected. Disappointing because the linkage is installed correctly based on the instructions. That's OK, half the fun is getting everything dialed in. _________________ Drive 'em!

#46 in your catalog here:
https://vwispwest.com/type3/front-axle-steering/steering/early/
You guys call it a "tie rod" but it's also an adjusting sleeve since it adjusts the length of the assembly. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Well don't I feel silly now. I also had never heard "adjusting sleeve" so I checked the ISP catalog because the exploded views are such a great resource. When I didn't see a "sleeve" separate from the tie rod I looked through the classifieds and found this:
All I really needed to do was to climb under my car and look for myself. Oh well, if that's the biggest mistake I make this week, life is good. _________________ Drive 'em!

All good. After you mentioned that there was one in the classifieds, I went and looked, and saw the same ad. That is just the cardboard sleeve to protect the threads.
The tie-rods themselves are not interchangeable. There is a left (short) and right (long) side (for LHD models). If it's available on the ISP site from what Tram linked above, we probably have a good use one to send out.
Everything is looking so good on the Notchback! Can't wait to see it out and about in some finished pictures. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

More tweaking, I didn't like the electric fuel pump mounted on the bulkhead so I moved it to the front beam. Sandwiched the beam seam between a couple mounting plates. Several layers of rubber innertube between the mounting plates and the fuel pump for some additional isolation.
I need to replace the Revolution Electronics fuel pump controller, it only worked properly a few times (cut off power after 3 seconds of no engine RPM), has been running continuously with ignition on ever since. Defeats the purpose. Now it's dead. Plan to switch to an inertia switch. _________________ Drive 'em!
