Up early this morning to get to the beach before sunrise. Got on the water for just under an hour before the wind backed off.

Met up with a few friends with Buses for a pre halloween camp at GoldenEars. It rained both Friday and Saturday but stopped around 4am Sunday morning. It was good to get out.
Bibimbap for dinner and Sleeman's Honey Brown Lager for the evening's beverage choice

Thanks! Sasquatch was a bit too short from the ones I've encountered though!

Took part in a cruise today.
Swapped back to my old rims. 215/85/16 LT on the rear and 205/75/16 LT on the front.
We had a Eurovan join us this time but he got lost along the way.
Tesla swapped Splitty (Tesla 3) gets ~250km-300km per charge using a ~57kw battery pack

I never thought I would say this but my daughter likes Bugs!
She did the work and lined up a few to go look at this past Sat.
The first one had an autostick that wasn't shifting very smoothly so we couldn't take it for a drive. The owner looked to have a 914 under cover in his garage so the Bug doesn't get driven much.
When checking out Bug #2, I opened up the rear hatch and saw a plastic fuel filter where one shouldn't be and when I asked the guy to start it up, gasoline started dripping immediately & blue smoke poured out of the left tailpipe....
Additionally, the owner looked at my Bus and said "nice car" .....!
Next!
No Bays on the Way, Vanagons, or even Eurovans seen on the road this past weekend but we did see an IDBuzz. _________________ *******************************

My DS door handle stopped opening the door from the outside so I took it apart and found out it broke. Checked the Samba Classified and see that there are a few from early Bays but the only ones for Late Bays are in Europe.
Are Early Bay door handles the same as Late Bay handles as if yes I'll buy the ones off the Classified and switch over to my lock tumbler.
If they are different, I may consider buying a whole new set of door handles (6pc including the ignition tumbler) from C&C. Has anyone bought from C&C? How's the quality?
I've asked in the local VW community and may find a spare someone has in their parts bin or I might reach out to BustedBus to see what they have.
Stopped in Chinatown again Sunday.
No Bays on the Way, Vanagons, or Bugs seen on the roads this weekend but saw 2 Eurovans on Sunday. _________________ *******************************

Found a matching pair of Early Bay door handles with a key from a local guy I've bought a few things from over the last 5 years. His stash of parts are mainly from Bugs and Split Buses but he has the odd Bay Window part too.
I tried to swap the mechanisms but they were slightly different so I just switched the key lock barrels and put it all back together. I cleaned up and lubed the passenger door mechanism too and now both doors lock and unlock smoothly.
Saw 2 Vanagons and a Bug today including this AC beauty. Could smell it before we saw it and when we pulled up behind it, I could hear the exhaust leaks.

After fixing the door handles yesterday we headed to one of our favourite spots.

It was below freezing yesterday morning with frost everywhere but it warmed up to about 40F.
My wife made some homemade cabbage soup and we brought fresh buns and cheese. It was a really nice day. _________________ *******************************

Hi Pittwagen
Yes, it's Derby Reach. We go a couple times a month as it's close by. How is your Bus running? _________________ *******************************

Have not camped at Derby Reach in a long time. I always found it quiet and very relaxing. You are looking across at historic Port Haney. Do you go into Fort Langley for a walk around? I was there last week in the morning. It was busy. Hard to find a parking spot even in late November.
Bus is running fine. I try to get it out at least once a week. Had the gas heater (BN4) going the other day as it was near freezing. Shirt sleeve temps in under 10 minutes. Nice to have that almost instant heat until the engine heater gets hot. Take care. |
