| Here we are 10 years on since the last post...I was lucky enough to see the whole Tom Tom bus build start to end at kcw and then the highs and lows of the story as it unfolded...is there any recent pics or updates about this wonderful vehicle? |

I have such fond memories of this build, it was happening while my bus was in the process of being bought and shipped over to Europe.
Following such an epic build whilst having the anticipation of my Kombi floating over constantly in the back of my mind it was like Christmas Eve for about 3-4 months.
Still my favorite bus ever in period, in its KCW guise.
Thanks KCW for the entertainment. _________________ I want a real garage.

I feel like the bus community shares your opinion. I know I do. It was the best "preservation" of the many fantastic KCW creations. Once restored they are just another shiny deluxe BD. Cool story nonetheless _________________ Home of the Annual Simple Transport Air Cooled shows!

| I remember following the thread on KCW and thinking the same thing, this was one of the baddest barn doors (in KCW guise) I've ever seen.... here we are in 2024, that one is gone and KCWs site has been down for about 2 weeks or so, wonder if he finally pulled the plug on his forum? |

Ex kcw 1954 barndoor samba.
Well known history described on thesamba:

Tomtom deluxe, hotel colorado welcome wagon logo on the sides.
Sold with some NOS parts, including a decklid and some other parts (corrects wheel cylinders, all front beam tie rod levers, rear spring plates covers).
I recently tried to remove paint to perhaps find patina from the past : the front bumper, bumper brackets, the decklid and rear apron : those parts are almost bare metal despite a few red is still under.
The interior of the front bumper still has the original red/patina as the front bumper brackets and the inside of the decklid.
I dont have the capacities to make a patina near its 1st version (kcw) but this would be perhaps a cool project for a next owner. |
Bolding is mine.
I don't think this Bus can be stripped back down? _________________ How to Post Photos

| Hard to argue that this one should never have been repainted, I loved watching that bus being resurrected on KCWs old site. |

And dialling in the price
Cool bus. I love the history and the signwriting. Yeh, Shame it got painted but the current seller didn’t commit the crime, has owned her for years, and dug into the hotel history. Can’t argue with that ….. |

Mic is very sincere about his buses. He had me restore the og TomTom DLX clock AND insisted on keeping the faded paint on the faceplate and pointers. Of course we cleaned and repaired it properly into working condition. I love that it still has all of it's Tom Tom era glory feel to it.
Whether or not the bus should have been painted, or if it should be brought back to 'some' patina paint is everybody's different opinion.
I also loved the story of finding, unfolding and buffing it out at KCW.
It also looks great in its fully restored version.
Also the strong og paint that Mike has uncovered does look great.
