Is that a dead body I see? Must have been the shock of seeing a VW there! |

The dead guy was bummed because his 2wd westy was stuck in the sand at the bottom of the hill while mine was on top. He couldn't handle it. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

Dusting off my old thread with some new photos. I took the syncro for a nice long drive on rough road the other day. I spotted this campsite right after I got this van and said I'd sleep there someday. Last weekend was finally that day. It was cold and windy but the view made it worth wile. Took these around 11pm. The next day I got stuck in a muddy ditch 20 miles from civilization and by myself. Took some luck and both lockers to get out. Lesson learned? Maybe...

Okay...I'm still officially jealous of your SCA Hightop Syncro even though I've a nice Syncro of my own _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Love that van.
Patiently waiting for this style top to be remade, the reimo zwitter mold was recently refound and purchased. |

Whoa...game changer for me. Seriously have to think about it if they start making them. _________________ This free advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I can’t stress enough how much I love this top. Last weekend it was 35 degrees with 20mph winds. With the top down I could still stand up inside but things were considerably warmer and quieter than if it had been up. On hot days pop it and open the screens. Perfect combo. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

What is the height inside with the top down? _________________ Dave O

I saw this thread and thought maybe it was the one I saw yesterday in the classifieds (clearly i do not have a photo memory). Anyways, one is for sale in Colorado:

No affiliation with seller, just thought the concept and layout was pretty dope! _________________ '89 2WD Westy "Grey Goose" - Manual 4spd

I love the westy pop top, but if these tops were available i would get one. living in the NW its wet and cold alot and would be nice to have the best of both worlds. I have the feeling if they are manufactured again they will cost like $5k. |

I haven't actually measured it but I'm 5'9" and I'd say I have a good 4-5 inches at least above my head. I'm totally comfortable standing up inside with the top down. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

Time for my every couple years update. It’s new interior day! The stock seats had split every seam and the rear was ugly as sin. Add rock hard bed foam and that meant it was time for a full redo. After ordering about 30 fabric samples I finally found what I was looking for. Stoked on how this came out. It’s my 80s version of a 70s westy. The built in seat-back organizers were a last second add and I’m happy to get rid of the aftermarket ones that were there before. Happy I found a shop that was as stoked on this project as I was. Feels great to have things freshened up.

Just absolutely great! Really nice, I love it.
Only quibble I have is … how did you do those panel insets of fabric on door. It’s superbe.

Thanks!
I just bought a set of the GW ABS door panels and turned them over to the upholsterer. We discussed the plan and I left it up to him from there. He said they tried several different widths before settling on this setup. I think it’s just the right mix of plaid and vinyl. _________________ '88 SCA High/Pop-top Syncro camper

Well, the fresh interior got me thinking it was time to get rid of the old, inoperable, head unit(s) in my van. I decided to go with a simple bluetooth receiver but had to make a custom panel to house it in. Also added a couple of din pockets where the other two in dash units used to be. Happy with how it came out.
