looking for help registering and titling a doka in the state of California and the paperwork I need in order to make the process smooth. Found a Doka that was brought into the country a few years ago but then just sat in someones garage. Do I just walk in with the vin and bill of sale or is it much more complicated? I've reached out to a few importers but no responses. Any help would be awesome.

you can read my findings here. Your best bet. Needs to be the original engine. (preferably diesel). NO zzz in the vin. (not a deal breaker but would be easier if it was canadian). It truly is a crapshoot. No formula here. PM me with the info and i can see what you have. _________________ 1991 Multivan

I'm trying to get my Tristar Syncro back on the road. I'm installing rebuilt tranny, cleaned up engine, gas tank resealed, etc. The grommet on my fuel filler neck, at the plastic body housing is pretty shot. Part # 251.809.940. I managed to turn one out of acrylic, and plan to mold and cast in silicone. I'm just wondering if someone has a new one on their shelf to confirm a measurement. The tapered flange part which seals around filler tube was mostly gone on mine. I'm wondering what the original ID was there. I've estimated 55 mm based on what was left of mine. Also wondering the height of the tapered area. I made it 6.5 mm, and thickened it up a bit, hopefully will survive better. Any suggestions before I mold this?
Peace,
Whitney

Thats grate work above. I was surching for this part around a year ago and it was nla. Which was dissapointing. How ever the solution that i came up with was to use the fuel filler to tank grommit. Which fits perfecly be it a very snug fit.. its very inportant that your new grommit is a good fit as it surports the fuel filler if its not it may cause fuel leak between the tank and the filler neak
If you when you make the parts i would be intrested on one if you dont mind sending 1 to the uk. All the best neil _________________ 1957, 1200cc 30hp, big window, delux beetle, swedish modle, now living in france

Some pics of the oldest (known) existing Syncro Doka.
Manufactured in 84 for Syncro promotion purpose.
Thats the reason why this Doka was build with all available options.
Located in germany, greets Markus

After much much lurking, dreaming and searching... I'm still a long way from having it in my possession, but working through Mike the Busman (www.busman.de), I've finally struck a deal on this survivor. IF all goes well, he'll pick it up in a couple of weeks and it will start its long journey...
1986 fire truck, 2.1 MV engine, dual lockers, with 60,300 km and a CARFAX documented/verified history. One spot of surface rust behind front bumper, and no underbody rot... The original Bamboo Yellow provides quite a clash with the fire engine red, but the interior is in remarkable condition with it having had vinyl seat covers since new.
Thanks, Mike! _________________ 1952 MG TD Replica, 69 VW IRS pan, 1679cc with 40 HPMXs -- Most fun for the money out there...

Hi TKentT, that looks really nice. I also worked with Mike the Busman over the past several months to import my doka syncro. It was quite the process to get it here to Canada but worth it! He is a good guy to work with, hope it goes smoothly!
Here's my syncro doka. Mike imported it from Belgium but it's originally from Finland. It's a bit of a fixer upper with a very bare bones interior but pretty clean and seems pretty much rust free. Right now I'm looking for a good place for fiberglass repairs for the canopy.

Help - am looking for best parts source for my 1989 Doka Tristar which I have just replaced 1.6 D with 1.9 TD AAZ engine.
Looking specifically for (2) temp sensors one that triggers front fan and the other for general temp management of the engine.
Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have info on the owner manuals that came with the syncro doka?
Was it the same as all other T3 syncro's? Any links to digital copies?

Sweet! Nice job!
Am interested in same list
If your a WBX then most all the Vanagon suppliers have what you need, other than those few and hard to find doka body specific parts ($500 for a treasure chest door, $180 for a t/c lock shock: ). A few of the US stores have doka specific parts, but most that I’ve found are through the Samba classified adds - and many of those are coming from Europe.
I’ve bought from these guys in the Netherlands http://have-a-nice-bay.nl (aforementioned t/c lock - had to saws-all the old one off...)

Does anyone have a photo or part # of the engine hatch strut from their Doka? I purchased an 87 and this part is missing. Thanks. |

stacy, the engine hatch is on a 1.6 td, for clarification it is the hinged door on the back of the truck. It has a little knob on the passenger side that looks like it takes a gas strut, similar to the rear hatch on my 87 vanagon, only shorter. |

The color is stone grey. It's one of the colors that come on the sprinters van. |

Air intake question...
I'm doing some major re-piping of my exhaust and air intake for my 1.8t conversion.
Ideally, I want to tap the air from the highest and front-most point possible, for the cleanest airflow.
The Doka has vestigial air intake louvers (or whatever you want to call the slots at the top of the C-pillars). We also have a specific flange on the R side beam (truck bed support).
The question is, does anyone know for certain if the beam is open all the way to the "louvers"? I thought this was a reasonable assumption, but so far I can't confirm it.
I fed a measuring tape in the beams and noted the L side seems blocked off at the treasure chest, about 3 feet from the oval hole; on the R side, about 5 feet from the flange, apparently through to the C-pillar.
So does it actually go into the C-pillar?
I dangled some reflective tape into the C-pillar and put a mirror inside the R beam's flange and shone a light in there, but could not confirm an opening. It's a pretty long tube and though you can see the other end, you can't really see how it's configured.
I also noted the beams are open in the back, at the top and bottom, but this could be blocked off by putting closed cell foam or such, inside the beam, in back of the flange.
Tapping air from the flange does provide a pretty high air intake point, but on a dirt road, the air flow would be a pretty dusty, if the air is actually coming from the back of the beam and not from the "louvers".
And really, should a Doka have any lesser "Swimcro" capability than a van? I want maximum "Swimcro" capabilities - just in case!
