Guys,

I have an original 60's Hurst shifter - the type with the trigger for reverse gear, this is currently fitted to my 60 bug. I'm led to beleive that this is an orginal 60's shifter, I'm the 3rd owner from new.

I've been thinking of swapping over to a Gene Berg, no particular reason I just like the look of Berg ones.

The shifter is in good shape, it as a very small tear in the boot, you can hardly even see it.

How much is this bad boy worth?

Cheers!

got any pics? Does it have hurst stamped on the side? If so would be worth something but the wear on these shifters suck they get sloppy and need new springs stiffer springs to keep it from hitting reverse when shifting to 2nd

$50 to $125 depending on condition... I'd give 150 to 200 for an NOS one.

Just like anything else, it is worth what someone will pay for it. I saw one in excellent condition last week go for 110.00 delivered.

Ok, i've got the brownish-copper colored one, which era would that be in? Early, middle, or late? Oh, and the shifter knob's splines are stripped out, would finding a good original one be hard?

the copper ones are most likely all 70's era stuff... I couldnt tell you how to discern what era a chrome one is from.

I have had both, berg and hurst....and I would be very happy with the hurst given the price of the bergs of late. Last year at Kelly park show and swap a guy and a new one in the box for $150. Wish I had bought it.

I thought the copper finish was only available with the straight model, and that chrome was for the angled rod.

The copper ones were early 70s. They were only available for a short time. They came straight or bent.
Check eBay right now for completed items. An NOS one with the box, warranty card, stickers, etc. just went for a massive $566. When 2 guys just have to have an item that's what happens.
Good used ones that are ready to install usually go for $125-150 on eBay.

I found one of these in good shape, missing the shift knob on a 69 beetle I looked at a few weeks ago. I almost bought the car, just because of the hurst shifter Shocked

When were the Hurst Type 2 shifters made & what do they go for?
My friend found one in a junkyard a while back & it was the first either of us had seen one-gotta be the longest shifter they ever made!

I got a copper curved one last year in great condition for $30 at the swap meet. I got a replacement boot and plastic base from here.... just like the cracked original.

I've owned a dozen or so over the years...have 2-3 now including the one in my 67 driver. I've had straight & bent, copper & chrome and a bus one. Here's the bus one. I wish I would have kept it but I sold it for 4+ times what I paid for it.

My 1970's vintage Hurst. Over 350,000 miles and still looks and works like new.
