I'm asking on this forum to get a pic of a 25hp pulley but the engine i'm building is for a 55 and i'm not sure of the type of pulley to use on the generator, i have a three piece 36hp pulley with the fat lip on the outer half of the pulley. But i'm thinking it should still have the thin lipped 25hp pulley. I have a 54 hand book and it shows pics of the thin slot generator with round regulator with a 25 hp pulley.
Any thoughts help with pics greatly appreciated

If you're using the thin-lipped pulley, then you'll need the 36mm nut. Both of which is correct for a Pre '55 motor. The lower crank pulley should also have no lip, as opposed to a curved lip pulley which was introduced in 1956 to coincide with the newer fat-lipped generator pulley & 21mm nut.

More info:
The toolkit changed to remove the larger generator pulley wrench on August 4th, 1955 so I would assume the 36 mm pulley nut was also changed at that time.

Ole thread I know...but still:

Where can I buy the puller-tool to get the original thin lip 25HP crank pulley off in the correct manner?

Regarding early generators:

The change from 36mm to 21 mm nut on the pulley was mid-1955.

When was the change from "thin lip" pulley to "deep draw pulley"....but maintaining the big nut on both?

Looking at progressive refinements, this is the only thing I found:

21 Dec. 53
Beetle: 1-0575415 695 282
Bus: 20-069409 695 356
Industrial: 122-019 888

Pulley
Now: 1.25mm sheet metal
Formerly: 1.0 mm thick

This is also the change date for 36hp engines.

Note: This doesn't sound right to me as I thought 54s and 55s has the thin lip lower pulley too but I don't see another entry.
And this is a late-1955 bus engine, engine # 20-1251855 (December, 1955)

I see that RareAir above said it changed for 1956.
I could not find any other information on the change.
