They never manufactured a 23 window bus in Brazil. They made 15 window buses. If the one you are looking at is a 23 window bus it means someone added the 8 skylight windows and the sunroof. _________________ September 1964 Standard Sunroof walk through SWR/BG original paint. |

Thank you for responses,
yes, my concerns were correct.. the bus is listed here in classified as a conversion, and on ebay missing the sentence about the conversion..
I talked to the seller on the phone who completely lied about the windows, buyers beware!!

Definitely buyer beware when buying an old VW. Doubly so if you are not going to fly down and check it out.
Good at least you are doing research first!
Knew a fellow who bought a Split Window Bug back in the 1990s that was a show winner and owned by a well known VW collector down in Texas. It supposedly was full of NOS parts and no expense spared on it.
We offered to drive down to Texas from Seattle and check it out for him, and visit relations we have down that way. If the deal went thru we could tow it back for him for $500.00. He turned us down, bought it, and had it shipped up North.
First sign of trouble was the Bug had to be pushed off the truck when it would not start. Then the horn button was missing, later to be found under the rear seat. Front hood would not open, and I had to go up and open it for the shop. Button in the past had been sanded down to fit into a different steering wheel, to fit back in the VW steering wheel it had tape wrapped around it to make it a press fit. Engine was tuned up to turn out it was not firing on all cylinders due to low compression. Engine lid had bondo all over it, some places about 1/2" thick. Driver door window would not roll up, due to worn out lift mechanism. Later after the engine was rebuilt it turned out the transaxle needed the same. There were lots of other problems with it that were fixed. He ended up spending more than it cost to buy the Bug in the first place and later had to sell it off for less than he had in it.
Brings a new meaning to no expense spared... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |
