|

Stopped by a friends shop last night and shot the shizzat, he points up in the rafters to a pallet with a couple of SVX motors on it. Ones good and complete with harness he said, other is sort of torn apart (they were bought by a marine company to experiment with orginally).
Did kind of a quick search, does not really look like the SVX is to DIY freindly? A quick scan of the smallcar site show parts etc... I did not see an adaptor for an auto though, and I know I have seen at least standard 4 cyl subars attached to them??
Any of you guys have one or been up close and personal with the SVX?? Thats alot of ponies!!!
Yea I kinow I need to hit that subaru forum, just doing a pre-lim before I get tangled up into yeat anouther forum _________________ Markus |

SVX power rules. 230 hp, 4 cam 32 valve, 10:1 C.R., non-interference. This engine is the ultimate for heavy Westies headed for the high country. Kennedy has the adapter plate, and MasterCraft (805) 965-6757 or Small car have the misc. installation parts. |

Never heard of Mastercraft, I'll have to check them out. I guess my biggest concern would be if the auto can handle that motor, and if not how much cash I would have to throw at my spare trans that need rebuilt already to make it stout enough! _________________ Markus |

The automatic trans is pretty stout as it is, although the gearing is a bit low to take full advantage of SVX grunt. Most SVX installations involve installing a slightly taller top gear along with a trans rebuild. (Your answer with an automatic would of course be to install taller tires.) |

The conversion for the SVX isn't that much different than the Legacy motors. I am doing the EJ22 myself. It's actually a fairly straightforward conversion. I would have done the SVX but I couldn't afford the engine. |

I have a 93 SVX in my garage that I had planned on using in my Syncro. I recently installed a Vr6 in my 84 GL auto and have decided to do this in my syncro also. The Vr6 raises the deck height about 6 in. The SVX fits under the lid making it perfect for a westy. So what this means is either I need a westy or find someone that needs An SVX engine. |

HA! I guess I should have kept quiet about the price in my PM huh? I'll hook you up if its too much for me take on as it would help us all out as me a Bob deal with him on various things (and hes a VW/Land Rover guy as well!)
For you conversion guru's, I guess a big concern would be that the harness is all there and complete? Thats just my take from the Smallcar site for them to do the needed mods, I think I would be too short tempered to mess with the wiring too much. My buddy says its there right up to the keyswitch though. I just don't know if the previous owner had done any mods to it for their evil marine application experiments, He thinks they only messed with the spare motor and quickly disreguarded it for marine use. _________________ Markus |

You'd also want the VIN number, otherwise it's pretty hard to get parts. Subaru is particular about that I guess. |

I got to drive a 91 Westy with an auto and over sized tires powered by a modded SVX claiming around 250 hp. That thing was a beast. He had it set up a bit on the loud side which I did not like. The auto trans seemed fine with all that power, but the brakes sure didn't. I would love to have one of those engines in my 90 Carat ! Not emission legal in CA. Would have to go through the ref to get a waiver. Thats a bunch of work. |
