I came across this vanagon cluster. I need help figuring out what the small gizmo attached to the blue circuit tape just above the speedo is. And why is it there?

I just replaced my dead speedometer last week. Inside the speedo is a circuit board for the dynamic oil pressure system control unit. The tab connected to the printed circuit attached to the blue masking tape in your picture plugs into the 6 pins on the circuit board inside the speedo.
If you didn't install the blue masking tape I would guess the PO did in order to keep the tab on the pins.
Check out this page from Bentley:

I just thought of another question related to this cluster. Do you think the PO put the resister on because the vangaon had a 2.5L Gowesty motor? |

That I don't know, but per Mark's information my guess would be this cluster was taken from an 86+van and used in a pre-86 van that did not have the circuit board inside the speedo. Gizmo (resistor) was required to make the oil light work properly. _________________ 86 Syncro GL Tin Top

I placed a resistor in the same place to satisfy my high pressure oil switch for my Subaru 2.2 conversion to keep the buzzer from sounding. This was recommended by someone on the Subaru/vanagon yahoo forum. Ive got more info somewhere in one of my folders that I can dig up if you need more details. |
