|
Howdy yall. I have been visiting the site for a while, and figured I'll sign up and start to contribute to the community. This is a attempt to say thanks to all that have posted questions and answers. I have used samba.com every step of the way thanks again!
Back in April of 09 a coworker gave me a 1973 bus. He has a 75 Westfalia and the 73 was taking up room in the back yard and he was tired of mowing around it . These are a few pics of her when we got home. No engine or transmission, rust in the normal spots, a true bondo buggy lol. The first of many father sons project.
The troops are inspecting the project
All the body work was done under a Texas Mesquite Tree and it shows. This was my first time to spray outdoors so it could be better but the boys are proud of it.
Ahhh, it's good to have Minions.
Some jackass cut this out for some reason
Interior work was a blast and turned out really great!
Can you tell who was yelled at right before this was taken?? "NO.....You can play Xbox tonight" lol
Not to bad for three boys without Adult Supervision
We took a three month break form the bus and moved to a new house (finaly shade)
Now the engine I first put in was a 1600sp, before long I finaly found a 2.0l. In west central Texas type 4 engines are hard to come by, or it was for me.
BACK AFTER FIRST TEST DRIVE
I bought this 74 Auto 9 seat-er off the classifieds here on the Samba for a $1000. It ran but smoked a lot, my plan rebuild the engine and install in the 73 and find one latter for the 74.
It cleaned up rather well.
Before
After complete rebuild.
We are going out trick or treating.
The stupid smile on my face says it all. Thanks again to every body who posted. I can't tell you how many late night hours I picked through the forums searching for answers. This is my first VW adventure it has been an infectious, fun life style............ |

Wow! you don't F around, nice work and congratulations on getting the kids off the couch!
I'm a bit concerned by the lack of proper cooling tin on both of your engines, or did you miss those pics? _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
Please don't PM technical questions, ask your problem in public so everyone can play along. If you think it's too stupid post it here

Turned out nice and your boys were a great help. We need more youngsters involved in the VW scene to keep it alive. Maybe a standard bug for the boys to do in future. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
Numbers Matching VW's are getting harder to find. Source out the most Stock vehicle and keep that way. You will be glad you did.

Quick question: What kind of adhesive did you use for the foil bubble wrap against the ceiling? And after a couple of Texas summers, how is it holding up? _________________ Chubber
