Hey all -
Quick question - what would be a good clutch for a healthy 2276 Beetle (180-200 HP) with a transaxle built to match? Someone installed a weak empi clutch and now it floats at higher rpms. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Stage 1 Kennedy pressure plate is for approx 175 lb ft of torque and Stage 2 is for approx 210 lb ft using an organic clutch disc.
There are two parts a pressure plate and a clutch disc.

CB’s dual friction disks are nice too. Smoother than a puck and better grip than a stock type disk _________________ "how am i supposed to torque the rear wheel nut to 250 ft lbs??? " - clonebug
An interesting thing happens in forums where everyone starts parroting the same thing and "common knowledge" takes over.

I have 2 motors later to Kennedy state 1 clutches. Best thing I ever did!
Love to know more about this 200 hp 2276. Like how did you come up with that number? _________________ __________

KEP Stage 1 with a dual friction disc, engine is a 2180 w/ a Berg 5, ZF and 100mm arm. Will easily smoke both rear tires.

The best tool for finding out how well your clutch/press plate works is a transaxle input shaft with a socket welded on the end. Insert the spline end of the input shaft into the clutch and use a torque wrench to turn the socket. When the clutch slips that's how many ft/lbs of torque that combination can handle. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 45 yrs - Plan B: '72 Ghia

I have a stage 1 kp with a factory long arm. You can depress it with your hand very easy.
