The good news; I took out the 1.9 and put in a Subaru 2.2.

Perfectly good 1.9, 65K miles, very usable to someone. Motor had been leaking oil from the flywheel end.

I had a buyer contact me, we agreed on a price, I said I would put in the flywheel end seal, being the honest, helpful sort that I am. ...

I have never run into bolts that just dont turn before. Using my 1/2 inch drive air wrench, I gave them the wappa---wappa---wappa. Not one would budge.

OK, now I'm curious. Has anyone run into this issue on a 1.9 WBX.
Symproms are loosing oil out the flywheel seal, and way tight flywheel bolts. Question

I'm sure I can remove these bolts, I've dealt with worse. I'll heat them next, nothing to loose, seal is bad already. If a few heat cycles doesnt free them up, I'll cut them off with a torch, and remove the 'stubs'. Install the new seal, and the new owner can install his own flywheel.

Any ideas appreciated.

I like to heat 'em up, then soak w/ WD-40; then repeat several times over the course of a day or two. There is also a wide variation in the qualtity of impact wrenches. I've seen bolts that would take the "wappa-wappa" all day long without budgeing but spun right off once a commercial-quality heavy-duty impact was used. Gotta have plenty of air pressure too .... Good luck! Smile

I did that to my 85 1.9 about a year ago to fix the same oil leak. You have to get a real long breaker bar, add length with a 3-4' iron pipe, you want about 4-5 of leverage then they come off no prob! I remember they were hot and had the smell of epoxy when I took them off. There had been some sort of industrial lock tight applied.

I hope you have something to keep it from turning, I took mine off while it was still attached to the wheels.

Good Luck

No matter how frustrated you get, don't use a shotgun.
