my car was running great until last weak i had the needle valve start sticking on my way home, the car would sputter and die but i was able to get it home, when i got home it was very hot, the dipstick was extra hot and the oil light flickering. since then i replaced the sticking valve in the carb but it now has a stumbling problem mostly under 2500 rpm, i replaced the accelerator pump diaphram and the faucet looking thing thinking they might be the problem, and i cleaned the carb, but its still there. so u guys think i screwed up the engine or maybe have a burnt valve.
till now i checked timing which is tdc hose disconected it advances smooth, i checked dwell its 46 degrees and replaced spark plugs, i also tuned the carb and still the problem wont go away i did the valves a month ago.which ill do again tomorrow when its cold.
what else might be causing this problem?
oh its a 30 pic-1 and 205 distributor |

Your valves may be the issue. Any time you get one of these motors hot it's a good idea to check the valves.
Some "air" movement out of the breather would be normal, this is how your engine breathes, if it didn't then you would have problems. _________________ 69 Beetle

Adjust your valves and follow with a compression test to see what you have left. |

Rule #1 Never buy Empi products.
Rule #2 See rule #1
Seriously though, have you searched the classifieds on here for good old rebuilt Solex carbs? _________________ oo9less since 2007

lesson learned.
well i have a 28 pict 1 that has the same problem but rimco isnt too far from me im thinking of rebushing the old solex, rather than use the empi one
would a 28 pict be sufficient for a 1600 sp engine, what jets do you recommend if i go with that?
thanks |

Adjust the dwell angle too. It should be 50 degrees +/- 2 |
