I am putting some led strip lights in my corner windows. I have been rearended twice in the 15 window and had a few close calls where someone skids to a stop up on my ass. The factory lights are just not bright enough. I just hate to have some bright non factory lights on there but better to be safe.

I used an old 67 bug back up light with a broken piece of red reflector stuck inside.

yeah I thought of using a reverse light but I wanted something that you just couldnt mistake for .......is that thing on or not. That sign isnt even at full voltage yet. I used it as a flashlight inside and outside.

I like it. Will it work on 6 volt? Can you post how you did it and where you purchesed the led's?
Thank You

I went BIG with mine. I cringed every time I hit the brakes, just waiting to get slammed. It's not too noticeable when it's not lit, and it's easily removed without having drilled holes or done any other mods.

Yep Thats how I am doing mine in the corner windows on the jail bars. I had some in the center of the trim but it was hard routing the wires and then one side burned out.

I purchased leds from radio shack...at 2 somethign a bag of 2 Evil or Very Mad Gave up on them and looked on ebay. Under usa seller theres a guy that sells 10mm red ones for......get this..........100 for 9.95 Very Happy Im running 12 volt so, I put 5 leds in series for 10 volts then I will use a regulator to drop the remaining voltage. Yes you can make yours to work from 6 volts. Just use less leds in series. Or, use a resistor with every led. The average led is 2 volts @20ma. The regulator is for when your running the bus......to account for the alternator or generators higher than battery output voltage. If you put 6 leds together and dont regulate (lm317t) or use a resistor, Im guessing that when you start the bus......your leds will have a much shorter life due to the overvoltage. Leds arent like regular incandescent auto light bulbs, they are not as resistant to overvoltage.

Yeah your the one with that huge strip, I just couldnt remember who had it.. Laughing I looked but couldnt find it online so I decided to make my own. The plus side is if it fails or an led burns out.....I can replace it easily.
This whole idea was fueled by that 58 bus that got creamed. I might even add more leds........not sure yet. The picture was taken while it was running off a 9 volt battery. Testing to continue until I can practically light lawns on fire with it Laughing

I made mine out of a reverse light, a type 1 bracket, and red reflector tape...

red tape used for lens...looks fairly good, but might redo it or look for an actual red lens:

Red lenses are available for the VW reverse lights.
I picked up a few at the 2010 Classic.
The were new in the box, glass and a perfect fit.
They were only $1 each.
