Parked next to this really nice Westy at the Whiteoak Canyon Trailhead in Shenendoah NP last Saturday. I should have taken the picture from the otherside, oh well. _________________ '87 Syncro

Looks like a Vanagon body with some pretty obvious mods; extended body at rear, redone front end, no vent windows. Not the only Cuban vehicle to have been vastly modified for service but this one at least looks well done compared to some others.

Judging from the air scoop, it appears that the engine is in the front like those strange trucks from Mexico. Thing on top also appears to be an air conditioner! _________________ Currently:

Sincerely doubt it's a Vanagon. Just a Chinese van with some fancy wheels, doodads, and VW badges for fun.
It has the engine up front under the passenger seat and the fuel tank in back.
Body creases are different, roof line is different, rear hatch is full length, slider door recess, etc.
That exterior A/C is kinda interesting, sort of like an RV, takes up less room inside.
There are some very clever Cuban panel beaters because of the various embargoes over the years but this has all the hallmarks of an Asian import.
I doubt it's Japanese, Indian, or Indonesian because it appears to be LHD, so most likely made in China. _________________ Currently:

This late model full Westy taunts me as I travel through the Prairie of the Dogs. Looks to be running, moves from time to time as I spy by.

Your daughter has a good eye. Glad she's contributing.
I had a buddy with an unhealthy attachment to finned Cadillacs so I, working as a traveling sales rep at the time, loaded him up with film photos I took for years in VA, NC, DC, and MD of the cars I saw. He assembled them into an album and happened to take it to a car meet. One guy was leafing through and exclaimed in shock, "That's MY car in front of MY house in Garner NC." _________________ '87 Westy in Wolfram Grey Metallic |

An hour ago, Key West FL, east side of the island watching the sunrise over Cow Channel towards Stock Island where I'm anchored. Sounded like an air cooled pulling away. Kayak on top, bikes in back.

Saw this beautiful Wolfsburg edition at the Sierra Nevada Brewery in Asheville, NC last Saturday night. It's the exact type that my mom had when I was a kid. Same exterior and interior color, two rear facing jump seats, and pop up table.
