|
|
Well i talk WAY to much about my buggy so i figured i would make my own topic about my build that way people can view it instead of me spewing my non sense into "what did you do to your buggy yesterday" type of topics....
so for those of you un unware of my project here it is....
its a sand rover t bug (from what i can tell) with a few mods i pick it up when i was 15 and have never drove it to this day...... working on it for nearly 6 years now it is starting to become what i pictured it to be... i have stuck many many MANY long hard hours and dollars into it and finally the hard work is starting to pay off... mind you all of the stuff i have done has been with limited help (help from another friend that is younger than i am!) and is the first car/build that i have ever done.... truley an experience... (i replaced the all of the brake system, the floor pans, did the body work, younger friend helped me paint it, did all of the wiring by myself.. yes it works... and no its not going to burn up.. and everything else... carpet etc.... lets say i have learned to respect my buggy so much more now since I built it... i dont really give much credit to those who buy an already built buggy....
here is the an advertisement article that i found cool and here are some pictures that i have.... there is not too many from the start (havent developed film yet) yes developing film.. remember that yeah that didnt have digital cameras when i started lol i do have more pictures i can post if requested... about 140 total.... so yeah anything just about lol.... later bpritchert87......
$50 rims good to have connections!!
got rubber?? lol
fav. photo.... ^^^^
black vdo gauges are the old ones... ultralite autometers are the replacements....
the wiring in these pictures looks like crap but i have since straighten them out.... and this is what it looks like thus far... took some of the last pictures about 5 hours ago... you can also see that i have the key/switches mounted under the seat for a clean dash... 5th picture from the last.... next comes the rest of carpet... and an engine....
ill keep ya posted... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Spring break is the bomb!! Later bpritchert87... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Looks nice! and clean too. I like the idea of having your switch box under the seat. I need to tackle my interior soon, and I to want to hide
as much as I can. Looks good...keep it up.

Your buggy looks bitchin! Your patience is amazing. As far as comments on what looks good or bad, I just never quite understood that. Everyone has different tastes. I personally build my toys for what I like. Sometimes my budget drives my mods but that doesn't really matter. You're doing a great job. Wish my buggy was as far along as yours. Can't wait to see the video of it running with you behind the wheel. Keep up the good work. |

thanks... i look forward to pulling into funfest.....
as far as progress i installed the mirrors.. got most of the engine stuff together in a tote.... made a mental list of what is needed yet... and washed up the heads/case/anything else to get it ready to be built... talked with a friend and he said that his dad will gladly help me build it.. and all i need to do is bring over the parts.. so the next challenge is to find time for me to contact him and build it.... then i need little stuff like a battery.. fix the headlight issue... new head unit... and brakes/bleed and then lube! lol ooo and ofcoarse plates/regs. .... later bpritchert87... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

well no luck today
case one was bored out 20 thousands... (need new bearings if i decide to use it .... but i have heard not to use 20 thousand bored over cases.... ) so then i decided to try case 2 and 3 no luck one was a type 3.. and other was messed up the crank wont spin when the case was torqued down...
so onto case #4 (good thing i had a stock pile) but this is my last hope... its a long block so i have to go take her apart... and we will see if that one is good..... if not i have to fork about what 400-550 bucks for a new case... i say 550 because if i am going to spend 400 bucks on a stock i should get the high performance one for about 550 bucks right??
hopefully this one is good out in the garage as i do not have a money tree... and it will take me some time to save up...
ill keep ya posted.... and let ya know if this one is good... out to the cold garage now...

i know you all are on the edge of your chairs... wondering if i am going to have to buy a new case.....
lol however 3rd time is the charm!! ( 3rd case out of 3 possible that i have aka type 1 cases) i just finished up tearing down the long block and torqued down the case to the specs.. and she spins freely.... yahoo!! hopefully its near been bored out... that would really take the cake _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

well messed with it again today... nope case is good!!! i changed over all of the bearings and pulled of the gears etc.... to put onto the "new" crank and everything went smoothy... torqued down the case.... and guess what.......
she spins freely!!!!!!!!!!!! yahoo but then i looked over at the end of the crank... and found that the dowel pins holes where rounded out jezzz lol so now i have to take apart the "new" crank and find a good one... (i have about 4 donors ready!! ) so thats no biggie... plenty of cranks.. so thursday i will go at it again.....
and firstly check the dowel pin holes before i reassemble it... lol i beginning to get a hang of this as this is my first engine... _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Hey Bpritchert
We've all been there! I pulled apart at least 11 or 12 old engines this last winter looking for useable cases. Found two. Finding a good engine case is like taking good pictures; If ya want a good one, ya gotta go through a bunch of them! Case-busting is an ugly job and my least favorite, but it's part of the process. Keep hangin in there and it'll come. Keep us up to speed on the engine build. What kind of head are you using? single? dual port? We need details!

really sometimes feel like im talking to myself but whatever... whatever(echo lol ) ....
anyways just wanted to mention the above list is a very mild "stocker" if you will for my buggy to drive for a little while....
i have plans for someday assembling a 1915 turbo that puts out about a good solid 150 hp... yes i can possibly do it N/A but i dont want a high strung engine that can only make that power at 6500 rpm...
that engine will hopefully sport some steve tims stage 2's possibly stage 1's or some drds... maybe wedge ports.... counter weight crank... the works really.. get some professional balancing done for the whole assembly.....
but i have to get some seriuos $$ first lol... so stocker is what it is now...
btw i have some more carpet pictures to upload sometime just havent made to much time to put the up... lol _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

here is the new Case!!!
the other day i found some time to tear apart the other "engine" so that is completely apart... ready to go for the new case....
just now i have to make sure that i have another elring kit to build the engine......
not much progress but some!!!!! _________________ Knowledge is Power Read and Learn !!!

Coming together, slow but sure! As a thought, I'd cover those battery terminals...much too close to the fuel tank for my comfort... |
