I removed the passenger seat with the goal of recovering it. Does anyone have pictures or instructions on disassembling the seats on a 73 Ghia? Rolling Eyes

I can tell, you're new here Laughing

Yes the that topic has been covered. There's a sticky where we've gathered a whole bunch of best threads talking about how to fix things on our cars.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=433752

scroll down that link and you'll find something about restoring almost everything on your car, seats included.

Have fun!

Installed headliner in my vert and tinkered with a bunch of other little things to tighten up what remains. Moving on to top cover install.

Check my thread for updates.

Back working on the Ghia after a 4 month hiatus.
The push is to get the all the rust repair done and off to get stripped before fall. Final piece was an improperly placed patch panel over the drivers rear wheel well. That and some inner fender rust through.
This was the first sign of trouble a small blister through 4mm of filler.

Unfortunately the prior repair was lapped.

Inner rust through cut out

Inner patched and primer applied.

Outer in place, rough ground with primer.

I drove this car for years thinking it was fairly solid. From 30 feet away it looked fine and drove just as well. With that, planned on the body restoration to be "basic".
Reading through others restoration posts it should have been apparent the consistency of what to expect. Next weeks project is to clean up some of the dimples on the nose.

Looking good. You make it look so easy. How fortunate you are to have the skills needed to attack this sort of project. Looking forward to seeing more progress.

A 6-monthly ritual here in New Zealand for classic cars: Getting a new Warrant of Fitness.

I was first in line on a chilly winter's Saturday morning, to the frustration of the men behind me because the inspectors had no clue how to handle a classic VW. What usually takes 15 minutes took an hour.

Replacing all exterior body rubber on front and back of my 69. Little Carmela love helping “gampa” work on his car. She knows how to lug bolts already.

That is too precious. Enjoy it while it lasts. My granddaughter is already to the point where she doesn’t wanna hang out with us old folks anymore.

Well this week I had to pull my engine to fix a main seal leak.
Turns out the dowel pins were just barely longer than the depth of the flywheel so it wasn’t holding tight. I think I Dodged a bullet as there’s no damage to the dowels or the flywheel and the endplay is still .004.

So I ground a little off the ends, put a new seal and now it’s on the shelf.

Since it was out, I decided to change the cam and heads, so I’m ending up just building a new motor.
Now I have to figure out what to do with this one. It’s perfectly good. It only has about 3000 miles on it so I don’t know if I’ll sell it or use it as art.

Since I’m waiting for parts for the new engine ( I opened up my Total Seal rings to find 3 of them broken and too late to whine about them) I picked up some control arms for my front passenger side. Now I can get positive and negative caster. Yay! No more eating tires.

Did Some welding today

How do you guys seal these 2 vertical openings between the front outside rocker/middle part and the last part of outside rocker?
Weld them complete close? Leave them open with little seal or kit in between?

Thx for the advice!

I had a very productive week. The car would drive but not right. And only sometimes! Replaced battery and terminal ends. Replaced and adjusted accelerator pedal. Tuned the carb. I was only getting the first 30% of throttle and it was running rich. Runs like a top now! Did some clean up on running wires and got my heater handles fixed. Adjusted the parking brake. Almost like a new car in my eyes. Plenty to go though.

When this car got delivered the battery came loose and bounced around in the engine compartment causing all kinds of ugly,,after looking at it for a year it was time to fix it.
