I simply stated that for that kind of money, it better have EVERYTHING & that at least the valve covers are/were heavily rust pitted with fresh powdercoat. If the valve covers were that bad, what did the rest of the bus look like before the new paint? How much of that "straight" bus has been massaged by the "plastic surgeon". For the cost of used (or new) valve covers, at least start with a nicer set.
Then take into consideration that the engine case & transmission, being made of different alloys, are the same color, leads me to believe that they were restored by Krylon. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

some folks like that "clean" look.... that is very subjective. personally I like the raw look of the trans/engine....but it's a real downer when it looks dark/discolored
typically folks who broker sales thru him have enormous amounts of photos, paperwork/documentation of the build.
moving on....
um...no

That's Rustoleum to you! Besides, that makes me an expert in the rattle can, no?
Perhaps, after screwing up EVERYTHING that I have laid my hands on, I should write a book about my "expertise" & try to pawn it off on you guys. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

It must be a later '68, it has the fuel tank firewall, that might explain the later middle bench. For HALF of that kind of $, I would expect it to have it's pedal pan & not so pitted valve covers. |
Wow. Pretty nicely detailed and presented. The seller, Brendan, sells high end type 2's, but usually 15 years older. One of a few Barndoor authorities.
I agree, a couple details not perfect. The tires are JUST WRONG. I think that year you could get any tires you wanted, as long as they were Conti 7.00-14 bias ply black walls.
I'm a little puzzled that the VIN is not included on ALL ads. For several decades it was the law in California to include the VIN in any print ad for any vehicle for sale. TheSamba classifieds has a blank for it, but not required.
That would show us instantly whereabouts in the build cycle this chassis fits.

Agreed, alot of work went into that, it still needs plenty of fine details finished and those seat covers have got to go, but overall it doesn't look like it's got anything to hide. Nice bus. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Arnold didn't do that one, he's mostly just a flipper now. I wonder if that works? Might help around town/ low crank speeds.
At least he has the 009 screamer and a plastic fuel filter and blue wires.
and no oil light, I'd guess.

That buses rust issues will amount to big $ to fix correctly. It needs to be inspected very carefully. The seller provided no pictures of under it. They also didn't provide any engine compartment pictures. Has it lived its entire life in the snow and rust belt? If so, that would be a deal breaker for me. Been there done that and have a participation trophy.
There's far too many dry SW USA buses out there that have minimal rust to take on a rust belt VW. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

that bus looks very complete and original. I would much rather have "original rust" than something some kid hacked up in his back yard hiding under shiny paint
that said, the price is too high. it's a solid 6200 to 7500 bus IF the rest is in ok shape
you know...some of the bitching makes me laugh....you can't buy a 1/2 way decent car for your kid for under 6K....somehow "hobby" cars need to be cheap....because it's a "hobby" _________________
