Spent the afternoon removing the og wax/underseal stonechip coating from the underside. Not much fun, freezing cold.

Nice original paint pan with no rust Very Happy

It was lifting and flaking in places so it had to be done as it has to survive the UK weather.

Anyone know what was used originally?

Most likely "Ziebart" applied by the dealer.

The regular undercoat was applied by the service tech. The ultimate undercoat was applied by the same service tech while standing on one foot.

give it a wash with wax & grease remover, re-prime the bare bits & scratches & paint it. Get local undercoating guy to reapply something to your liking. I like just paint, easy to clean and looks great.

Whatever it was it has done a great job protecting the underside.

Ziebart is not something I can buy here.

I will remove all the loose / damaged areas and clean out the channel where the body bolts to the pan.

De grease/wax and wipe it all down 400 grit the og paint and zinc prime then use Gravitex to provide protection.

I don't have long before a european road trip so it needs protecting for the winter roads with the salt and grit.

I was hoping there was something very similar that I could re-apply myself. The original stuff has a solid wax layer then black coating.

My two ex-US Cabrios have had what appears to be a 'dealer' or 'PD' (pre-delivery....not factory) applied plastic-based sealer. It seemed t work OK,.. but bith my cars are dry-state cars

I have 'restored' the chassis with priming, then apply a polymer-based stone guard type texture finish that is impervious to water etc

Then overpaint with colour/chassis black

Same here. Plus just painting it allows you to keep an eye out for rust. Wink
